The Air Line Pilots Association, International (ALPA), the world's largest airline pilot union and non-governmental aviation safety organization, representing over 79,000 pilots at 42 U.S. and Canadian airlines, seeks an experienced professional for the role of Training & Human Performance Coordinator.
Position Overview:
As a vital member of the Engineering & Air Safety (E&AS) department located in Tysons (McLean), Virginia, the Training & Human Performance Coordinator serves as the primary staff point of contact for the policy areas of Training and Human Performance. This role provides essential expertise, support, and coordination for activities encompassing human performance, pilot training, human factors, and other related disciplines as assigned. The Coordinator acts as a key liaison between ALPA and various government, industry, trade, and professional organizations pertinent to these fields. Responsibilities also include activities related to the development and harmonization of worldwide regulatory standards. The position requires close collaboration with the ALPA Air Safety Organization (ASO) and its associated groups, as well as the other technical groups and Master Executive Councils (MECs) within the ALPA structure.
Key Responsibilities:
- Serve as the staff focal point and subject matter expert for Training and Human Performance policy areas.
- Provide expertise, support, and coordinate activities related to human performance, training, and human factors.
- Act as liaison with external government, industry, trade, and professional organizations.
- Support the development and harmonization of regulatory standards globally.
- Work collaboratively with the ALPA Air Safety Organization (ASO), technical groups, and MECs.
- Participate in rotational duties answering calls to the ALPA Worldwide Accident Hotline and the Pilot Peer Support line, which includes coverage outside of standard business hours, weekends, and holidays.
Minimum Requirements:
- Bachelor’s degree from an accredited college or university; or, an equivalent combination of human performance and training education and experience.
- Minimum of five (5) years of direct experience in aviation safety, pilot training, human factors, and/or human performance.
- Established professional contacts within the international and North American aviation community.
- Thorough understanding of Federal Aviation Regulations (FARs) and Canadian Aviation Regulations (CARs).
- Strong interpersonal and communication skills, both oral and written, for effective interaction with staff, pilot members, and external contacts.
- Excellent organizational skills and demonstrated time management abilities.
- Ability to learn quickly and adapt seamlessly to changing demands.
- Proficiency in technical writing and presentation skills to communicate effectively with Association members, Officers, government and industry representatives, stakeholders, and staff.
- Ability to work independently and proactively identify and respond to issues and problems.
- Proficiency in Microsoft Word, Outlook, PowerPoint, and Excel.
Desired Qualifications:
- Pilot’s license with an instrument rating and experience operating various aircraft types. (Additional experience in aviation safety may be substituted for the licensing requirement).
- Previous employment at airlines, the FAA, and/or industry segments in a relevant capacity.
Travel:
Up to 20%; sporadically, travel (local and national) could require up to 25% of the time.
Physical Demands:
The position involves typical office environment activities, including constant computer/smartphone/tablet use, maintaining a stationary position, moving about the office and local area, communicating, and exchanging information. Regular requirements include sitting, standing, bending, reaching, and moving about for office work and travel. Occasional lifting/moving of binders, books, boxes, and files up to ten (10) pounds may be required. While traveling, the ability to move luggage weighing up to 50 lbs. may be necessary.

Salary:
Projected Annual Salary Range: $96,027.00 – $137,179.00
