The Air Line Pilots Association, International (ALPA), the world's largest airline pilot union and leading non-governmental aviation safety organization representing over 79,000 pilots, seeks an experienced Training & Human Performance Coordinator for its Tysons (McLean), Virginia office.
This position serves as an integral member of the Engineering & Air Safety (E&AS) department, acting as the staff focal point for Training and Human Performance policy areas. The Training & Human Performance Coordinator provides essential expertise and support, coordinating activities related to human performance, training, human factors, and other assigned areas. The role involves crucial liaison activities between ALPA and various government, industry, trade, and professional organizations within these disciplines. Responsibilities also include activities associated with the development and harmonization of regulatory standards globally. The Coordinator collaborates closely with the ALPA Air Safety Organization (ASO) and its associated groups, along with other technical groups and Master Executive Councils (MECs) within the ALPA structure. On a rotational basis, the position requires answering calls to the ALPA Worldwide Accident Hotline and the Pilot Peer Support line, including outside business hours, weekends, and holidays.
Travel of up to 20% is expected, with occasional trips potentially reaching 25%.
This position is covered by a collective bargaining agreement. ALPA is a member-driven, staff-supported union.
Minimum Requirements:
- Bachelor’s degree from an accredited college or university or an equivalent combination of human performance and training education and experience is required.
- A minimum of five (5) years of direct experience in aviation safety, pilot training, human factors, and/or human performance is required.
- Must possess established professional contacts within the international and North American aviation community.
- Requires a thorough understanding of Federal Aviation Regulations (FARs) and Canadian Aviation Regulations (CARs).
- Strong interpersonal and communication skills, both oral and written, are necessary for effective interaction with staff, pilot members, and external contacts.
- Excellent organizational skills and practiced time management abilities are essential.
- The ability to learn quickly and seamlessly adapt to changing demands is extremely important.
- Proficiency in technical writing and presentation skills is required to communicate effectively with Association members, Officers, government and industry representatives, stakeholders, and staff.
- Must be able to work independently and proactively identify and respond to issues and problems.
- Software proficiency in Microsoft Word, Outlook, PowerPoint, and Excel is required.
Desired Qualifications:
- A pilot’s license with an instrument rating and experience operating various aircraft types is desired. Additional experience in aviation safety may be substituted for the licensing requirement.
- Previous employment at airlines, the FAA, and/or industry segment in a relevant capacity is extremely helpful.

The physical demands described are characteristic of those that must be met to successfully perform the essential functions of this position. This role constantly involves operating a computer/smartphone/tablet, maintaining a stationary position, moving about the office and local area, and conversing with others. Regular activities include sitting, standing, bending, reaching, and travel. Occasional requirements involve moving, raising, reaching, and/or retrieving items up to ten pounds within the office, and handling luggage up to 50 lbs while traveling.

Projected Annual Salary Range:
\$96,027.00 – \$137,179.00
