Training & Human Performance Coordinator

Position Overview:
The Air Line Pilots Association, International (ALPA), the largest airline pilot union and non-governmental aviation safety organization in the world, representing over 79,000 pilots at 42 U.S. and Canadian airlines, seeks an experienced and dedicated Training & Human Performance Coordinator for its office in Tysons (McLean), Virginia.
As a key member of the Engineering & Air Safety (E&AS) department, the Training & Human Performance Coordinator serves as the primary staff liaison for Training and Human Performance policy matters. This role involves providing expert knowledge, support, and coordinating activities related to human performance, training, human factors, and other assigned areas. The Coordinator acts as a crucial link between ALPA and various government, industry, trade, and professional organizations pertinent to these disciplines, contributing significantly to the development and harmonization of regulatory standards globally. The position requires close collaboration with the ALPA Air Safety Organization (ASO), associated groups, other technical teams, and Master Executive Councils (MECs) within the ALPA structure.
Responsibilities:
- Serve as the staff focal point for Training and Human Performance policy areas within the E&AS department.
- Provide expertise, support, and coordinate activities in human performance, training, human factors, and related fields.
- Act as liaison between ALPA and relevant government, industry, trade, and professional organizations.
- Contribute to the development and harmonization of worldwide regulatory standards.
- Work closely with the ALPA Air Safety Organization (ASO), other technical groups, and MECs.
- Answer calls to the ALPA Worldwide Accident Hotline and the Pilot Peer Support line on a rotational basis, including outside business hours, weekends, and holidays.
Requirements:
- Bachelor’s degree from an accredited college or university, or the equivalent combination of human performance, training, education, and experience.
- Minimum of five (5) years of direct experience in aviation safety, pilot training, human factors, and/or human performance.
- Established professional contacts within the international and North American aviation community.
- Thorough understanding of Federal Aviation Regulations (FARs) and Canadian Aviation Regulations (CARs).
- Strong interpersonal and communication skills, both oral and written, for effective interaction with staff, pilot members, and external contacts.
- Excellent organizational skills and proven time management abilities.
- Ability to learn quickly and seamlessly adapt to changing demands.
- Technical writing and presentation skills to communicate effectively with Association members, Officers, government and industry representatives, stakeholders, and staff.
- Ability to work independently and proactively identify and respond to issues and problems.
- Proficiency in Microsoft Word, Outlook, PowerPoint, and Excel.
Desired Qualifications:
- Pilot’s license with an instrument rating and experience operating various aircraft types. Additional experience in aviation safety may be substituted for the licensing requirement.
- Former employment at airlines, the FAA, and/or industry segment in a relevant capacity.
Travel:
- Up to 20% travel is required; sporadically, travel (local and national) could be as much as 25% of the time.
Physical Demands:
The position requires the ability to constantly operate a computer/smartphone/tablet; regularly maintain a stationary position; move about the office and the local metropolitan area; determine what others have said or written; converse with others and exchange accurate information. Regularly required to sit, stand, bend, reach, move about the office, and travel (locally, nationally, and internationally). May involve occasional bending, stooping, squatting, and/or pushing and pulling or moving. Occasionally required to move, raise, reach, and/or retrieve items up to ten (10) pounds in the office; potentially responsible for moving luggage weighing up to 50 lbs while traveling.

Salary Range:
Projected annual salary range: $96,027.00 – $137,179.00
