About the Role

Previous experience as a rated military aviator (instructor pilot) is highly desirable.

Must possess the intellectual ability to adapt to rapidly changing training tools, methods, and emerging requirements.

May be required to stand for several hours at a time while instructing in a classroom.

Work may occasionally require travel.

May occasionally be required to work other than normal duty hours, including shift work, overtime, and irregular hours.

Must be able to obtain and maintain a Secret security clearance.

A 1-year supervisory probationary period is required if the applicant has not previously met this requirement.

Must have the ability to instruct at an expert level in a wide variety of interdisciplinary studies including aerodynamics, flying fundamentals, instrument flying, aircraft systems, weather, crew resource management, operating procedures, navigation, safety, and aircraft mishap prevention.

Must pass initial and periodic short notice drug testing as this is a Testing Designated Position (TDP).
Qualifications

Must possess the appropriate Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) pilot certificates and/or appropriate military ratings.

Must meet applicable flight hour requirements and possess the knowledge and skills required for the positions.

A current Commercial Pilot Certificate or the appropriate military rating is required.

For flight instructor positions, a FAA Flight Instructor Certificate or the military equivalent rating is also required.

The pilot certificate must include ratings appropriate to the work.

Minimum Flight Hour Requirements (GS-11 and above):

Total Flight Time: 1500 hours

Candidates establishing eligibility based on military flight experience must provide official documentation.

At the time of initial appointment, candidates must possess a current first or second-class medical certificate in accordance with FAA regulations.

Federal Time-In-Grade (TIG) requirement: One year at the GS-12 level is required to meet the time-in-grade requirements for the GS-13 level if applicable.
