Role Description

Northrop Grumman Mission Systems is seeking a Staff Test Pilot for Flight Test Operations. This role is responsible for providing flight test capabilities for the development, assessment, and demonstration of company products and systems. The successful candidate will contribute to revolutionary technological advancements while maintaining high standards of flight safety and technical excellence.

Key Responsibilities

  • Perform research and development flight tests supporting sensor development across various applications and technical maturity levels.
  • Maintain currency and proficiency in multiple aircraft types.
  • Plan and execute flight operations in the National Airspace System, including Special Use Airspace, military exercises, and operations with military assets.
  • Execute test flights to verify analysis related to aircraft modifications.
  • Provide technical support and liaison services to program teams for sensor integration.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.

Basic Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree with 12+ years of professional/military experience, or a Master’s degree with 10+ years of professional/military experience.
  • Graduate of a military test pilot school (USNTPS, USAFTPS, ETPS, or EPNER).
  • Minimum of three years of developmental and/or operational flight test experience.
  • FAA Commercial Multi-Engine Land pilot certificate (without centerline thrust restriction).
  • FAA Second Class Medical.
  • Minimum 1,500 hours First Pilot (USN/USMC) or Primary (USAF) flight time in turbojet, turbofan, or turboprop aircraft.
  • Current active DoD Secret clearance (or higher) with a background investigation completed within the last 6 years or current enrollment in Continuous Evaluation.
  • Ability to obtain and maintain Program Access (PAR).

Preferred Qualifications

  • Master’s degree in engineering or a related technical discipline.
  • FAA Airline Transport Pilot (ATP) rating.
  • Experience with aircraft modifications, configuration, control, and technical/operational review boards.
  • Familiarity with government flight test organizations, ranges, and processes.
  • Technical and operational familiarity with airborne radar systems.
  • FAA type ratings and experience in multi-engine, non-centerline thrust aircraft.

Compensation and Benefits

The primary salary range for this position is $204,500.00 – $306,700.00. Actual base salary offers are determined by factors including scope, responsibilities, experience, education, skills, and market conditions. Employees may be eligible for overtime, shift differentials, discretionary bonuses, and a comprehensive benefits package, including health insurance, life and disability insurance, savings plans, and paid time off.
