Test Pilot - Joby Aviation

Joby Aviation is seeking a passionate and driven Test Pilot to join the flight test team. This role encompasses a wide range of responsibilities, including planning and executing flight tests for experimental CTOL/VTOL fly-by-wire aircraft and supporting all certification-related activities. Candidates must possess formal test pilot training or equivalent experience and demonstrate the flexibility to adapt core flight test principles to a new aviation environment. This position is based in Marina, CA, or Hollister, CA.

Key Responsibilities

  • Execute flight test activities, including test planning, pilot-in-command duties (remote UAV and inhabited), chase pilot operations, debriefs, and post-flight analysis.
  • Conduct simulator testing, development, and Failure Modes and Effects Testing.
  • Contribute to flight readiness reviews, test safety reviews, and administrative tasks.
  • Perform flight test engineering duties, such as test card preparation and control room direction.
  • Maintain comprehensive documentation in accordance with company and FAA procedures.
  • Ensure strict adherence to all laws, regulations, and safety operating practices.

Required Qualifications

  • Graduate of a recognized test pilot school (long course) or equivalent on-the-job training.
  • Minimum of 3 years of post-training flight test experience, including at least 50 hours of experimental or certification flight test time.
  • Bachelor of Science degree or equivalent experience/training.
  • Fixed-wing and/or rotorcraft Commercial Certificate.
  • Minimum of 1,000 hours pilot-in-command flight time.
  • Excellent interpersonal skills with the ability to travel and work extended hours.
  • Proficiency in reading and speaking English.

Desired Qualifications

  • Combined fixed-wing and rotary-wing flight test experience (principal experience in fixed-wing preferred).
  • Experience with AV-8, F-35B, or V-22 aircraft.
  • FAA certification flight test experience.
  • Flight instructional or test pilot school instructional experience.
  • Experience with all-electric aircraft.
  • Flight test DER or AR qualification.

Compensation and Benefits

The target base pay is $187,400 – $250,000 per year, supplemented by Restricted Stock Units (RSUs). Flight Test DER - Joby Aviation

Joby Aviation is seeking a driven Flight Test Designated Engineering Representative (DER) to support the planning, testing, and certification of an electric CTOL/VTOL fleet. The successful candidate will leverage their background as a DER or ODA Unit Member to navigate the certification landscape for next-generation aviation. This role is based in Marina, CA, or Hollister, CA.

Key Responsibilities

  • Perform flight test activities including test planning, execution as pilot, chase pilot, and post-flight analysis.
  • Conduct simulator testing, development, and Failure Modes and Effects Testing.
  • Lead certification and flight test compliance documentation, coordinating directly with the FAA to attain Type Certification.
  • Support flight readiness and safety reviews.
  • Provide engineering feedback through test card preparation and control room responsibilities.
  • Ensure all operations comply with FAA procedures and safety regulations.

  • FAA Flight Test Pilot DER-T certification.
  • Excellent interpersonal skills.
