Take Flight as an Assistant Chief Flight Instructor at LIFT Academy
LIFT Academy is seeking a highly motivated and experienced Assistant Chief Flight Instructor to join our team in Indianapolis, Indiana. This full-time position offers a unique opportunity to lead and mentor the next generation of aviators in a dynamic and rewarding environment.
Position Purpose:
The Assistant Chief Flight Instructor plays a crucial role in overseeing Part 141 ground and flight instructors, ensuring the highest standards of instruction and safety. Responsibilities include conducting stage checks, end-of-course checks, and delivering ground instruction in accordance with FAA regulations, the Airmen’s Information Manual, advisory circulars, airport operations, and LIFT Academy policies and procedures.
Essential Duties:
- Conduct facility tours and familiarize prospective students with LIFT Academy's policies, procedures, and flight training courses.
- Serve as a flight instructor and check instructor, as authorized by the Federal Aviation Regulations and designated by the Chief Flight Instructor, adhering to the approved Training Course Outline.
- Diligently monitor and document student progress, accurately maintaining and updating all pertinent records.
- Conduct audits of student records, manage student enrollments and graduations as delegated by the Chief Flight Instructor.
- Maintain unwavering adherence to course standards, ensuring training requirements and objectives outlined in the Training Course Outline are met by all assigned students.
- Proactively monitor the maintenance condition of training aircraft, promptly reporting any concerns to LIFT maintenance personnel.
- Contribute to the ongoing improvement of curriculum and courseware, recommending and developing enhancements as needed.
- Actively participate in administrative, standardization, in-service training, and instructor development meetings as assigned.
- Provide exemplary leadership and guidance to a team of flight instructors, fostering a positive and supportive learning environment.
- Oversee the recruitment process for potential flight instructor candidates, including screening, interviewing, and making hiring recommendations.
- Provide comprehensive coaching, mentoring, and supervision to direct reports, conducting performance appraisals, delivering feedback, implementing corrective actions, and overseeing professional development.
- Perform other duties as assigned.
Required Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:
- Education and/or Experience:
- Specialized training beyond high school culminating in FAA and/or Airline Transport Pilot certification.
- FAA Certified Flight Instructor ratings: Airplane Single Engine Land, Airplane Multi-Engine Land, Instrument.
- Minimum of one year experience as a flight instructor, with a minimum of 500 flight hours.
- Current FAA First Class Medical Certificate.
- Meet the minimum requirements for an ATP or RATP certificate.
- Meet the current hiring minimum age and flight hours requirements set by the FAA and LIFT Academy.
- Possess comprehensive knowledge of all curriculums authorized to teach.
- Instructional Expertise:
- Demonstrated ability to effectively apply instructional techniques in both classroom and in-flight settings.
- Strong classroom presence and effective communication skills, coupled with proficiency in computer applications.
- Aeronautical Proficiency:
- Exceptional aircraft piloting skills, including familiarity with and ability to perform required flight maneuvers and procedures.
- Regulatory Knowledge:
- Thorough understanding of applicable Federal Aviation Regulations and related administrative and operational procedures.
- Interpersonal Skills:
- Exemplary customer service skills and a commitment to providing exceptional student experiences.
Preferred Education and/or Experience:
- G1000 experience is highly desirable.
- Prior Part 141 experience is preferred.
- Previous experience as a check instructor is advantageous.
Regulatory Requirements:
- Must successfully pass initial and ongoing drug and alcohol testing programs.
- Must pass a Federal Background check.
Language Skills:
Excellent written and verbal communication skills, including the ability to read, analyze, and interpret general business periodicals, professional journals, technical procedures, and governmental regulations.
Proficiency in writing reports, business correspondence, and procedure manuals.
Strong presentation skills, effectively conveying information and responding to questions from diverse audiences including managers, clients, customers, and the general public.

Demonstrated ability to solve practical problems and navigate complex situations with limited standardization.
Ability to interpret and follow instructions delivered in various formats including written, oral, diagrammatic, and scheduled.

Decisions typically involve moderate cost and short-term implications.
Physical Demands:
- Ability to stand for extended periods, at least 70% of the time.
- Ability to lift or move up to 25 pounds up to 35% of the time.
Work Environment:
This position requires flexibility and the ability to work variable hours, including potential short-notice responses.
Ability to remain calm and exercise sound judgment while working under pressure in a fast-paced and potentially noisy environment.
Travel Requirements:
Willingness and ability to travel up to 25% of the time, including overnight and weekend travel.
