First Officer Position at Republic Airways
Overview
Republic Airways, a leading regional airline in North America, is seeking a highly qualified and experienced First Officer to join our team. As a First Officer, you will play a critical role in supporting the aircraft Captain, ensuring the safe and timely operation of our Embraer 170/175 aircraft.
Responsibilities
The First Officer is responsible for a wide range of duties, including:
- Flight Planning: Collaborating with the Captain in meticulous flight planning, utilizing comprehensive weather information and reports in accordance with Company policies, procedures, and Federal Aviation Regulations (FARs).
- Aircraft Safety: Ensuring the aircraft is airworthy by conducting thorough pre-flight inspections and adhering to FARs and Company guidelines.
- Operational Coordination: Working closely with the Captain to ensure proper fuel planning and safe flight execution, in compliance with regulations and policies.
- Aircraft Operation: Safely and effectively operating the aircraft during the designated duty period, following the Captain's instructions and adhering to FARs and Company standards.
- Knowledge and Expertise: Maintaining a comprehensive understanding of the aircraft equipment, related FARs, and all relevant manuals, policies, procedures, and instructions.
- Crew and Passenger Communication: Providing timely and accurate information to the crew and passengers regarding weather conditions or any operational factors affecting the flight.
- Load Manifest Completion: Accurately completing the load manifest for each flight.
- On-Time Operation: Contributing to a reliable and on-time operation by assisting the Captain in meeting all reporting times, departure times, and minimum turn times.
- Terminal Assistance: Providing assistance with and ensuring proper handling of aircraft, passengers, baggage, and cargo at the terminal.
- Professional Conduct: Maintaining regular and reliable attendance, adhering to the Company's uniform dress code, and conducting oneself professionally at all times while on duty.
- Continuous Improvement: Actively pursuing professional training to enhance performance and skills.
- Additional Responsibilities: Performing other duties as assigned by the Company and the Captain.
Qualifications
To excel in this role, the ideal candidate will possess the following qualifications:
- Education: High School diploma or GED.
- Certification: Meet the minimum requirements for an ATP or RATP certificate.
- Experience: ATP written is preferred.
- Compliance: Meet the current interview and hiring minimum age and flight hours requirements set by the FAA and Company.
Additional Considerations
Candidates who meet the interview minimums but not the hiring minimums will be considered for hire upon successful completion of the interview process if they meet the hiring minimums within six months of the interview date and have no certificate action, misdemeanors, or felonies since the interview date, and accept a class date within six months of the interview date.
Preferred Qualifications:
- Prior customer service experience, preferably in an aviation environment.
Skills and Abilities
- Language Skills: Proficiency in reading, analyzing, interpreting, and understanding technical procedures and governmental regulations, demonstrating the ability to effectively present information and respond to questions from various stakeholders, including management, dispatch, crew, passengers, air traffic control, and the general public. Strong English communication skills are essential, including the ability to speak and be understood clearly, especially during emergency situations.
- Reasoning and Problem Solving: The ability to effectively solve practical problems and deal with a variety of situations, demonstrating adaptability and resourcefulness. Capable of interpreting and following various instructions in written, oral, diagram, or schedule form. Exceptional composure and the ability to think and react quickly in all types of emergency situations, including medical emergencies, aircraft decompression, emergency evacuations, fires, security threats, passenger disturbances, turbulence, and more.
- Decision Making: Demonstrated ability to make sound decisions to support the strategic direction of the company. Decisions will typically be medium range with moderate consequences but may be significant and have safety-of-flight implications in unusual situations. The ability to process information rapidly and react positively during unexpected or challenging situations.
- Physical Demands: The ability to climb, balance, stoop, kneel, crouch, squat, and/or crawl. Must be able to sit for extended periods without standing. Capable of lifting or moving items weighing up to 75 pounds at different heights. Meets the visual demands outlined in the FAA medical standards. Clear hearing for verbal communications in person, on the telephone, and over a headset, despite ambient aircraft and passenger noise. Possesses the stamina to work long days, on sequential days, with frequent changes in temperature, climate, and weather conditions. Must be able to move freely, effectively, and quickly within the confined environment of the aircraft. Must be able to sit in the pilot's seat or assigned jump seat with seatbelt and shoulder harness fastened without any modifications.
Work Environment:
- This position requires the ability to work near moving mechanical parts.
- Ability to withstand outdoor weather conditions within an open air hangar and on the flight line for extended periods.
- Noise levels can be loud, and the use of a headset is required.
- Willingness and ability to work extended duty periods on sequential days, as well as a varied schedule, including early mornings, nights, overnights, and weekends.
Travel Requirements:
- Travel up to 100% of the time, including nights, weekends, holidays, and overnight stays.
- Ability to work extended hours with a lack of scheduling control and be ready to report to work with little notice.
- Willingness to relocate based on the Company's operational needs.
