Job Summary

The Department of Aviation Science or Flight Training invites applications for one or more fixed-term, non-tenure-track full/part-time Instructor positions to teach on a term-by-term or course-by-course basis for the 2024-2025 academic year. Some of these appointments may be reviewed for renewal or transition to an instructional position on an annual basis at the discretion of the Department Head or Chief Instructor.

The Aviation program's mission is to train students in the theory and practice of aviation; to engage in instruction and other activities that will promote the proper use of aviation methodology and best practices; and to provide aviation training service to students and external partners. The program typically offers a selection of both ground and flight classes.

The institution provides a core instructional and training role, supporting the ideals of learning, skill development, and engagement that are the foundation of professional aviation. The program embraces instruction and practical training in disciplines ranging from flight principles, aerodynamics, and meteorology to air traffic control and aviation regulations, all based in unbiased inquiry and a dedication to safety and innovation. Responsibilities include delivering ground instruction, providing flight instruction (if applicable to certification), developing and updating curriculum materials, evaluating student performance, mentoring students, maintaining training records, and ensuring adherence to safety standards and regulatory requirements.

Working Conditions / Work Schedule

Instruction may occur in classrooms, simulator bays, or aircraft cockpits. Instructors are typically expected to be present at the training location when delivering in-person instruction and available to meet with students during office hours and by appointment. Attendance at faculty or staff meetings may be required. Work schedule may vary depending on course load and flight scheduling demands.
