Airplane Pilot (Part 135 Medical Transport)

The Mayo Clinic is seeking a professional Airplane Pilot to provide Part 135 flight services for medical transport operations. Primarily based in Rochester, MN, this role supports aviation and medical service requirements across Mayo Clinic campuses, including Jacksonville, FL, and Phoenix, AZ. This is an FAA safety-sensitive position dedicated to prioritizing patient needs through a culture of aviation excellence.

Key Responsibilities

  • Adhere to the Mayo Clinic Culture of Safety by modeling core behaviors: attention to detail, clear communication, questioning and receptive attitude, effective hand-offs, and mutual support.
  • Actively participate in the management of the company Safety Management System (SMS).
  • Complete required simulation training events.
  • Ensure compliance with the General Operations Manual, Standard Operating Procedures, CAMTS, and IS-BAO policies and accreditation standards.
  • Perform duties in a 0.9 FTE (36 hours per week) capacity, including 12-hour day and night shifts with every other weekend coverage and travel to non-primary bases.

Candidate Requirements

  • Current FAA ATP Fixed Wing Rating.
  • Airplane Multi-Engine Instrument Rating.
  • Minimum of 2,500 total airplane flight hours.
  • Minimum of 2,000 total airplane Pilot-in-Command (PIC) hours.
  • Minimum of 1,000 total turbine hours.
  • Minimum of 700 hours of multi-engine airplane flight time.
  • Minimum of 200 airplane night flight hours as PIC.
  • Minimum of 200 hours actual weather flight time.
  • Possession of an FAA Class One medical exam obtained within the 12 months preceding the interview.
  • Maximum body weight of 250 pounds (114 kilograms).
  • Ability to pass a Federal level background screen.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Experience with jet and turbo-prop aircraft.
  • Current currency in airplane category and class at the time of application.
  • Professional experience in air medical transport.
  • Four-year college degree.

Conditions of Employment

Subsequent to hiring, all required FAA medical examinations must be performed by the Mayo Clinic Division of Preventive, Occupational and Aerospace Medicine as an FAA Class One category exam.
