Position Summary

The First Officer provides crucial support to the Captain, assisting in the safe and efficient conduct of all flight operations. In the event of the Captain's incapacitation, the First Officer is responsible for assuming full command of the aircraft. This full-time position is integral to maintaining the high standards of safety and operational excellence at Kalitta Charters II.

Key Responsibilities

  • Executes duties concerning the flight in strict accordance with Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs), including all procedures, limitations, and performance specifications relevant to the specific aircraft type, as allocated by the Captain.
  • Ensures the safe navigation of the aircraft, continuously and independently verifying the geographical position and maintaining safe terrain clearance.
  • Conducts flight operations safely and proficiently in compliance with the current flight plan and the Captain's instructions when the Captain is not at the controls.
  • Offers insightful advice, information, and assistance to the Captain to contribute favorably towards the safe and efficient conduct of the flight.
  • Seeks and receives necessary information and clarification from the Captain to effectively fulfill their function.
  • Reports safety concerns, irregularities, incidents, and accidents to the Director of Safety if not already accomplished by other crewmembers.
  • Reviews and revises onboard aircraft manuals to ensure currency and availability.

Qualifications and Requirements

Education & Certifications

  • High School Diploma or General Equivalency Diploma (GED) is required.
  • Aviation-related college degree is preferred.
  • Valid unrestricted U.S. Driver’s License.
  • Valid unrestricted Passport.
  • Current FAA First Class Medical Certificate.
  • FAA Commercial Pilot License with an Instrument Rating.
  • FAA Airline Transport Pilot (ATP) Certificate.
  • FCC Restricted Radiotelephone Operator Permit.

Flight Time Requirements

  • R-ATP holders must possess a minimum of 1,000 hours total flight time.
  • A minimum of 2,500 hours total flight time is required, including at least 500 hours of turbine time.
  • Previous FAR Part 121 experience is preferred.
  • Type rating in the Boeing-737 is preferred.

Work Environment & Culture Skills

  • Proficiency in basic MS Office applications, computer software, and internet navigation.
  • Ability to pass DOT/FAA pre-employment drug screen and a DOT/FAA compliant background check.

Physical Requirements

The role requires an employee to meet certain physical demands to successfully perform essential functions. This includes the regular ability to stand, sit, talk, hear, and utilize hands and fingers for operating a computer and telephone keyboard.

Location & Shift Requirements

  • Operations are based in Ypsilanti, Michigan, at Willow Run Airport (YIP).
  • This position does not offer the ability to work from home.
  • Relocation packages are not provided for this position.
  • The work schedule operates on a 13 days on, 10 days off rotation, bid in 90-day increments.
  • Availability to work weekends, holidays, nights, and assigned shifts is mandatory for this full-time role.

Other Requirements

  • Must meet all age requirements as stipulated by FAR Part 121 regulations.
  • Must be legally authorized to work in the United States.

Compensation and Benefits

Compensation

  • Yearly base compensation of $81,360.00.
  • Salary commences at the start of training, along with accommodations provided at the Ypsilanti base (YIP).
  • Competitive salary established on a progressive pay scale, including yearly increases and bonuses.
  • Per Diem for qualifying assignments.
