Chief Pilot
Kalitta Air, LLC seeks a highly qualified and experienced individual for the role of Chief Pilot, a full-time, regular position based in Ypsilanti, MI, US (Requisition ID: 2130). This position reports to the Director of Operations within the Flight Operations Department.
Position Purpose:
The Chief Pilot is responsible for managing and directing the day-to-day functions of all pilots within Kalitta Air, LLC.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities:
The Chief Pilot's duties and responsibilities include, but are not limited to:
- Ensuring all flight crew members adhere to Kalitta’s policies and procedures, providing an exceptional customer experience while maintaining the highest level of safety.
- Overseeing the Electronic Flight Bag Program, ensuring all documents and publications are relevant and up-to-date; preparing and distributing applicable crewmember instructions, bulletins, and manual information.
- Chairing the Training Review Board (TRB).
- Coordinating with other departments to ensure regulatory compliance with the FAA, ICAO, and EASA.
- Maintaining an adequate roster of qualified, current, and available pilots to meet company requirements at all times.
- Assisting the Director of Operations as necessary and acting on their behalf when required by regulation.
Education and/or Experience:
- Previous experience as a Check Airman, Assistant Chief Pilot, Chief Pilot, Fleet Manager, or Director of Operations at a FAR 121/135 carrier is preferred.
- An Associate's or Bachelor's degree in Aviation Management or a related field is preferred.
- Previous Boeing aircraft operating experience is preferred.
- Successful completion of Kalitta Air’s Captain upgrade program on either the B747 or B777 airframe is required.
Language Skills:
The candidate must possess the ability to read, write, and understand spoken and written English, and have the capacity to write routine reports and correspondence.
Qualifications:
- FAA Multi-Engine Airline Transport Certificate or Restricted Multi-Engine Airline Pilot Certificate.
- Minimum of 2500 hours total flight time; 4000 hours preferred.
- Military candidates: >1000 hours total time; Turbine and PIC time are flexible.
- Minimum of 1500 hours of turbine (Jet) flight time.
- Minimum of 500 hours of PIC turbine (Jet) flight time.
- Current FAA Class 1 Medical Certificate.
- FCC Radio License.
- No restrictions on International Travel.
- Current US Passport.
- Ability to pass a 10-year security background check and pre-employment Drug and Alcohol test.
Physical Demands:

Work Environment:
The employee will perform duties in an office environment and will be a line-qualified pilot working both inside and outside of the cockpit in various meteorological conditions, including extreme cold and heat.
