Position Summary
Jet Aviation invites applications for a highly experienced and safety-conscious Gulfstream 650 Captain to join its distinguished Flight Services team based in Van Nuys, CA. The Pilot in Command holds the ultimate responsibility for the safe, secure, and efficient execution of all assigned flight operations, with paramount emphasis on safety, security, and quality standards. This pivotal role involves reporting to the Lead Captain regarding company operating policies and procedures. The Captain will exercise full Pilot in Command authority for all flights to which they are assigned, serving as the final and absolute authority for the safe conduct of each flight.
Key Responsibilities
The Gulfstream 650 Captain is entrusted with a broad spectrum of critical duties, ensuring the highest standards of operational excellence, compliance, and safety in all aspects of flight:
- Safely operate the aircraft, encompassing the determination of optimal departure times and routes, and making authoritative decisions to cancel flights based on prevailing weather or other pertinent conditions.
- Ensure meticulous adherence to all federal, local, and company regulations, policies, and procedures throughout every phase of flight.
- Institute all necessary operational modifications as required by en route conditions, guaranteeing the flight continues in strict compliance with applicable company policies, procedures, and rules.
- Conduct all flights in a safe and prudent manner, consistently upholding rigorous industry and company standards.
- Accurately complete all required trip paperwork in precise accordance with current operational procedures.
- Foster a thorough and complete understanding with the Second in Command regarding all aspects of flight planning and execution.
- Diligently record all aircraft discrepancies as they occur on the aircraft discrepancy log and promptly report these discrepancies to the Director of Maintenance (DOM) or their designated representative. Utilizing the approved Minimum Equipment List (MEL) and under the direction of the DOM, determine if an inoperative item can be deferred or requires immediate repair, completing the aircraft discrepancy log as necessary.
- Verify that all flight crew members report for duty in proper attire and that they are mentally and physically fit for duty.
- Maintain a comprehensive working knowledge of all aircraft systems for which they are authorized to operate, including all emergency systems and associated procedures.
- Secure the aircraft after each flight, including arranging hangar storage if deemed necessary or as instructed by company management.
- Obtain the most current weather reports, forecasts, and NOTAMs from a certified FAA flight service station or other authorized agency.
- File or ensure the filing of a flight plan with the FAA or an ICAO state Air Traffic Control (ATC) facility.
- Thoroughly analyze area, en route, and terminal charts for both the airport of intended landing and designated alternates.
- Perform the functions of the In-flight Security Coordinator (ISC) under the provisions of the applicable twelve-five standard security program or private charter standard security program.
- Conduct the required passenger safety briefings or delegate this duty to the Second in Command.
- Impart essential knowledge and skills to the Second in Command to prepare them for assuming Pilot in Command duties in an emergency or for future upgrade opportunities to Pilot in Command on that aircraft type.
- Complete and transmit the leg manifest to operations control prior to each departure.
- Complete and transmit the End of Day (EOD) report to operations control upon the conclusion of each flight day.
- Actively support the open sharing of information on all safety issues and promptly report all safety hazards and concerns.
- Immediately report any hazardous action, conduct, or event to the Chief Pilot and Director of Safety.
- While the Pilot in Command may delegate specific duties, the ultimate responsibility for those duties remains with the Captain.
- Represent Jet Aviation as a unified company, both internally and externally with industry groups, regulatory bodies, and the General Dynamics network.
- Perform other duties as required to support optimal flight operations.
Minimum Requirements
Candidates applying for the Gulfstream 650 Captain position must fulfill the following stringent qualifications:
- Possession of an Airline Transport Pilot Certificate (ATP) with the appropriate Gulfstream 650 (G650) Aircraft Type Rating.
- Ability to obtain and maintain an FAA First Class Medical Certificate.
- A minimum of 3,500 hours of total fixed-wing flight experience.
- A minimum of 1,500 hours in multi-engine land aircraft.
- A minimum of 1,500 hours as Pilot-in-Command (PIC).
- A minimum of 1,500 hours in turbojet aircraft.
- A minimum of 500 hours of turbine aircraft experience.
- A minimum of 100 hours of night flight experience.
- A minimum of 75 hours of actual or simulated instrument time.
- A minimum of 5 years of professional aviation experience.
- Demonstrated ability to work flexible schedules, accommodating varied flight assignments and travel demands.
- Willingness and ability to travel worldwide extensively, without any restrictions.
- Possession of a valid driver’s license with a clean driving record.
