Position Summary
Jet Aviation is seeking a highly experienced and meticulous Gulfstream 650 Captain (Pilot in Command) to join its distinguished flight services team. Based in Van Nuys, CA, this critical role reports directly to the Lead Captain regarding company operating policies and procedures. The Pilot in Command holds ultimate responsibility for the safe, secure, and efficient conduct of all assigned flight operations, exercising full authority as the final decision-maker for flight safety.
Key Responsibilities
The Gulfstream 650 Captain will perform a comprehensive range of duties vital to ensuring safe and compliant flight operations, including but not limited to:
- Safely operating the Gulfstream 650 aircraft, meticulously determining departure times, routes, and making judicious decisions to cancel flights based on prevailing weather or other critical conditions.
- Ensuring that all flight operations are conducted in complete adherence to federal, local, and company regulations, policies, and procedures.
- Implementing all necessary adjustments and changes required by en route conditions to ensure the flight's continuation under appropriate company guidelines.
- Maintaining a comprehensive working knowledge of all aircraft systems, including emergency systems and procedures, for the aircraft types authorized to operate.
- Conducting the flight in a safe and prudent manner, consistently upholding industry and company standards.
- Completing all trip-related paperwork accurately and in accordance with current operational procedures.
- Fostering a thorough and complete understanding with the Second in Command (SIC) regarding all aspects of the flight, ensuring cohesive crew resource management.
- Promptly recording all aircraft discrepancies on the discrepancy log and reporting them immediately to the Director of Maintenance (DOM) or their designee. The Captain will consult the approved Minimum Equipment List (MEL) and, as directed by the DOM, determine if an inoperative item can be deferred or requires immediate repair.
- Verifying that the entire flight crew reports for duty in proper attire and is mentally and physically fit for their responsibilities.
- Securing the aircraft after each flight, including arranging hangar storage when deemed necessary or as instructed by company management.
- Obtaining the most current weather reports, forecasts, and NOTAMs from authorized FAA flight service stations or other approved agencies.
- Filing, or ensuring the filing of, a flight plan with the FAA or an ICAO state Air Traffic Control (ATC) facility.
- Analyzing area, en route, and terminal charts for the intended landing airport and designated alternates.
- Performing the functions of the In-flight Security Coordinator (ISC) as required under the provisions of the applicable Twelve Five Standard Security Program or Private Charter Standard Security Program.
- Conducting required passenger safety briefings or delegating this duty to the Second in Command.
- Imparting essential knowledge and skills to the Second in Command, preparing them to assume Pilot in Command duties during emergencies or upon upgrade.
- Completing and transmitting the leg manifest to operations control prior to each departure.
- Completing and transmitting the End of Day (EOD) report to operations control upon the completion of each flight day.
- Actively supporting the open sharing of information on all safety issues and promptly reporting any safety hazards or concerns.
- Making an immediate report of any hazardous action, conduct, or event to the Chief Pilot and Director of Safety.
- Representing Jet Aviation as a unified entity, both internally and externally, engaging with industry groups, regulatory bodies, and the broader General Dynamics network.
- While the Pilot in Command may delegate certain duties, the ultimate responsibility for these duties remains with the Captain.
- Performing other duties as required to support flight operations and company objectives.
Minimum Requirements
Prospective candidates for this prestigious position must meet the following stringent qualifications:
- Possess an active Airline Transport Pilot (ATP) Certificate with the appropriate Gulfstream 650 Type Rating.
- Ability to obtain and maintain a current FAA First Class Medical Certificate.
- A minimum of 3,500 hours total fixed-wing flight time.
- A minimum of 1,500 hours multi-engine land flight time.
- A minimum of 1,500 hours Pilot-in-Command (PIC) time.
- A minimum of 1,500 hours turbojet flight time.
- A minimum of 500 hours turbine aircraft time.
- A minimum of 100 hours night flight time.
- A minimum of 75 hours actual or simulated instrument time.
- At least 5 years of professional aviation experience.
- Demonstrated ability to work flexible schedules, accommodating the dynamic nature of global flight operations.
- Willingness and ability to travel worldwide extensively, without any restrictions.
- Possess a valid driver’s license with a clean driving record.
