Position Summary

The Pilot in Command reports to the Lead Captain regarding company operating policies and procedures. This role is responsible for the safe and efficient conduct of flight assignments, with a strong emphasis on safety, security, and quality. The Pilot in Command exercises authority over all assigned flights and serves as the final authority for their safe execution.

Minimum Requirements

  • Possesses an Airline Transport Pilot Certificate with appropriate Aircraft Type Rating.
  • Obtains and maintains an FAA First Class Medical Certificate.
  • Has a minimum of 4000 hours Total Fixed Wing flight time.
  • Includes at least 1500 hours Multi-Engine Land time.
  • Accumulates a minimum of 2000 hours Pilot-in-Command time.
  • Possesses at least 1500 hours Turbojet time.
  • Holds a minimum of 1500 Turbine time.
  • Includes at least 100 hours Night flight time.
  • Has a minimum of 75 hours Actual or Simulated Instrument time.
  • Demonstrates 5 years of aviation experience.
  • Must be able to work flexible schedules.
  • Is willing and able to travel worldwide extensively, without any restrictions.
  • Possesses a valid driver's license.

Main Responsibilities

  • Safely operate the aircraft, determine departure times and routes, and/or cancel flights based on weather or other conditions.
  • Ensure flights are conducted in complete compliance with all federal, local, and company regulations, policies, and procedures.
  • Institute all necessary changes required by en route conditions to continue the flight under appropriate company policies, procedures, and rules.
  • Conduct the flight in a safe and prudent manner in accordance with industry and company standards.
  • Accurately complete all required trip paperwork according to current procedures.
  • Ensure a thorough and complete understanding with the Second in Command regarding all aspects of the flight.
  • Record all aircraft discrepancies as they occur on the aircraft discrepancy log and immediately report them to the Director of Maintenance or their designee. Refers to the approved MEL and, as directed by the DOM or designee, determines if an inoperative item can be deferred or needs repair, completing the aircraft discrepancy log as required.
  • Determine that the flight crew reports for duty in proper attire and are mentally and physically fit for duty.
  • Maintain a complete working knowledge of all aircraft systems authorized to operate, including all associated emergency systems and procedures.
  • Secure the aircraft after each flight, including arranging hangar storage if deemed necessary or instructed by company management.
  • Obtain the most current weather reports, forecasts, and NOTAMs from an FAA flight service station or other authorized agency.
  • File or cause a flight plan to be filed with the FAA or an ICAO state ATC facility.
  • Analyze area, en route, and terminal charts for the airport of intended landing and alternates.
  • Perform the functions of the In-Flight Security Coordinator (ISC) under the provision of the twelve-five standard security program or private charter standard security program as applicable.
  • Conduct the required passenger safety briefings or assign that duty to the Second in Command.
  • Impart knowledge and skills to the Second in Command to prepare them to assume Pilot in Command duties in an emergency or when upgrading to Pilot in Command in that aircraft.
  • Complete and send the leg manifest to ops control prior to each departure.
  • Complete and send the End of Day (EOD) report to ops control upon completion of each flight day.
  • Take an active role supporting the open sharing of information on all safety issues and reporting all safety hazards and concerns.
  • Make an immediate report of any hazardous action, conduct, or event to the Chief Pilot and Director of Safety.
  • May delegate these duties but not the responsibility for those duties.
  • Perform other duties as required.
  • Represent Jet Aviation as one company internally and externally with industry groups, regulatory bodies, and the General Dynamics network.

While performing duties, the employee is required to use hands and fingers to handle, feel, or reach. The employee frequently stands, walks, or sits. The employee occasionally climbs or balances, kneels, crouches, or crawls. The employee must frequently lift and/or move up to 25 pounds and occasionally lift and/or move up to 50 pounds above their head. Specific vision requirements include close vision, distance vision, color vision, peripheral vision, depth perception, and the ability to adjust and focus.

Work Environment

The work environment characteristics described are representative of those encountered while performing the essential functions of this job.

The employee must be able to work in both a heavy maintenance environment and in upscale customer areas. The noise level is usually moderate with occasional high volume when aircraft arrive/depart. The employee is frequently exposed to vibration. Occasional fuel fumes may permeate the workplace. The employee must be willing and able to work in all types of weather conditions. The noise level in the hangar environment is usually loud and may be extreme hot and cold during certain seasons of the year.
