FlightSafety International, the world’s leading provider of professional aviation training, seeks a dedicated Pilot Instructor to deliver exceptional ground-based training for C-17 pilots. This role involves instructing and evaluating the progress of crewmembers using the established Training System (TS) curriculum.
The Pilot Instructor will conduct training using various devices including the Weapon System Trainer (WST), the C-17 aircraft, and Computer-Based Trainers (CBT). They will instruct on air drop, aerial refueling, and transport operating procedures, while also diagnosing and remediating student challenges. Maintaining a high level of subject knowledge and instructional expertise is crucial. The instructor will conduct briefings and debriefings, counsel pilots, and engage in administrative duties related to training, such as record keeping and program development. They will also contribute to courseware updates and policy modifications, and participate in simulator flights to maintain expertise and observe student progress. The role also includes serving as a C-17 Pilot Subject Matter Expert and, when assigned, a Flight Check Airman, CCAF Evaluator, and SIMCERT/SIMVAL evaluator. The instructor will assist in projects, attend relevant boards and meetings, and undertake safety and security responsibilities as assigned. Travel may be required.
Candidates must possess a Bachelor's degree and a minimum of eight years of flying experience, with five years as a C-17 pilot, including air drop and aerial refueling experience (or be able to obtain an AMC/A3TK waiver). Furthermore, two years or 200 hours of flight instructor experience in air drop, aerial refueling, and tactics are required. Recent C-17 flight simulator pilot instructor experience and CATS MECOC certification are desirable.
The successful candidate must have the ability to fluently read, write, speak, and understand English, and possess excellent written and verbal communication skills. Working knowledge of instructional principles and TSs, along with proficiency in personal computers and software applications, is essential. They must successfully complete annual internal standardization evaluations and hold an active SECRET Security Clearance.
This position requires the ability to sit, stand, and walk, as well as to use hands and arms to operate equipment. The instructor may also be required to lift up to 25 pounds and occasionally up to 35 pounds, and must be able to ingress/egress from the simulator and aircraft. The work environment may include exposure to varying weather conditions, temperature extremes, and noise levels.
