Flight Instructor - C-17 Aircraft

As a Flight Instructor, you will be responsible for delivering comprehensive ground-based training to C-17 pilots, ensuring they achieve the highest levels of proficiency in all aspects of their role.
Purpose of the Position:
The Flight Instructor plays a pivotal role in the development of C-17 pilots, delivering ground-based training within the established Training System (TS) curriculum. This includes instructing, evaluating, and guiding crewmembers to enhance their operational capabilities.
Key Responsibilities:
- Conduct training utilizing a variety of devices, including the Weapon System Trainer (WST), the C-17 aircraft, Computer-Based Trainers (CBT), and other ground training resources.
- Provide instruction in air drop, aerial refueling/transport operating procedures, and address student challenges through effective diagnosis and remediation.
- Maintain a high level of subject knowledge, instructional competency, and expertise in all aspects of C-17 operations.
- Facilitate briefings and debriefings with pilots and Maintenance Engine Run personnel to foster continuous improvement and maintain operational excellence.
- Conduct administrative tasks related to training, such as liaising with the user organization, maintaining accurate records, monitoring student progress, providing counseling, contributing to training development, and overseeing training programs.
- Provide valuable feedback for courseware corrections and modifications and update training policies and procedures as needed.
- Maintain instructional proficiency by periodically flying the WST.
- Observe student progress by flying on the C-17 aircraft (as required) in observer status.
- Serve as a C-17 Pilot Subject Matter Expert (SME) for students, other personnel, and test events as needed.
- Assume the role of Flight Check Airman (FCA) (Lead) when designated by the Employer.
- Function as a Community College of the Air Force (CCAF) Evaluator, when assigned by the Employer.
- Perform Simulator Certification (SIMCERT)/Simulator Evaluation (SIMVAL) duties as directed by the Employer.
- Contribute to project and development initiatives as assigned.
- Participate in Operations Group Standardization/Evaluation (Stan/Eval) Boards (SEB) and Training Review Panels (TRP), as well as Formal Training Unit (FTU) instructor meetings (when FCA is unavailable).
- Attend Headquarters (HQ) Air Mobility Command (AMC) curriculum reviews, HQ AMC Stan/Eval Conferences, and/or Flight Manual Review Conferences (FMRC) as required (when FCA is unavailable).
- Execute Learning Center monitor duties as assigned.
- Fulfill safety representative responsibilities as designated/assigned.
- Perform physical/cyber security representative duties as assigned.
- Carry out hazardous materials (HAZMAT) duties as designated/assigned.
- Travel as required.
- Perform other duties as assigned.
Qualifications:
- Education: Bachelor's degree required.
- Experience: Eight (8) years of flying experience, five (5) years of which as a C-17 pilot with air drop and aerial refueling experience, or the ability to obtain an AMC/A3TK waiver. Two (2) years or 200 hours of flight instructor experience in air drop, aerial refueling, and tactics. Recent C-17 flight simulator pilot instructor experience and CATS MECOC certification are highly desirable.
- Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:
- Fluency in reading, writing, speaking, and understanding English.
- Strong communication skills, both written and verbal, with the ability to effectively convey information and respond to inquiries from customers.
- Working knowledge of instructional principles and theories pertaining to Training Systems (TS).
- Proficiency with personal computers and software applications, such as word processing, spreadsheets, and databases.
- Ability to successfully complete annual internal standardization evaluations.
- Possession of an active SECRET Security Clearance.
