Purpose of the Position
FlightSafety International is seeking a highly experienced and motivated C-17 Pilot Instructor to deliver exceptional ground-based training. The ideal candidate will possess a deep understanding of C-17 aircraft systems, operational procedures, and instructional techniques. This role is crucial in shaping the skills and knowledge of future C-17 pilots, ensuring they meet the highest standards of safety and proficiency.
Responsibilities
- Provide comprehensive ground training to C-17 pilots utilizing a range of advanced training tools, including Weapon System Trainers (WST), Computer-Based Trainers (CBT), and other ground training resources.
- Deliver expert instruction in areas such as air drop operations, aerial refueling procedures, and tactical flight maneuvers, effectively addressing and remediating any student challenges.
- Maintain an unparalleled level of subject matter expertise, continuously updating knowledge on C-17 systems, procedures, and training methodologies.
- Conduct thorough briefings and debriefings, providing constructive feedback and guidance to enhance pilot proficiency.
- Collaborate closely with Maintenance Engine Run personnel to ensure a seamless and effective training environment.
- Manage administrative tasks related to training, including student performance monitoring, record keeping, and curriculum development.
- Contribute to the ongoing improvement of courseware and training materials, ensuring accuracy and relevance to current operational standards.
- Maintain flight proficiency on the WST to demonstrate expert-level knowledge and skills.
- Participate in observer flights on the C-17 aircraft to stay abreast of operational procedures and assess student progress in real-world scenarios.
- Serve as a subject matter expert for C-17 operations, supporting students, fellow instructors, and test events as required.
- Assume the roles of Flight Check Airman (FCA), Community College of the Air Force (CCAF) Evaluator, Simulator Certification/Evaluation specialist, Learning Center monitor, and safety/security representative as assigned.
- Actively participate in standardization and evaluation boards, training review panels, and curriculum development initiatives to ensure the highest level of training quality.
- Contribute to special projects and developmental initiatives as assigned, leveraging expertise to enhance training programs and operational efficiency.
- Travel as required to support training activities and professional development opportunities.
Qualifications
- Bachelor's degree required.
- Minimum of eight years of flying experience, including five years as a C-17 pilot with demonstrable expertise in air drop and aerial refueling operations. Candidates with less than five years of C-17 experience may be considered with an approved AMC/A3TK waiver.
- Two years or 200 hours of flight instructor experience, specifically in air drop, aerial refueling, and tactical flight instruction.
- Recent experience as a C-17 flight simulator instructor is highly desirable.
- CATS MECOC certification is preferred.
- Exceptional communication skills, both written and verbal, with the ability to clearly convey complex information to a diverse audience.
- Strong interpersonal skills and the ability to foster a positive and effective learning environment.
- Proficient in Microsoft Office Suite and other relevant software applications.
- Ability to maintain an active SECRET Security Clearance.
