Contract Instructor Pilot

The Contract Instructor Pilot is responsible for delivering ground school and simulator-based training in the TH-57B/C Flight Training Device (FTD). Based at NAS Whiting Field, this role provides initial and instructor-level helicopter training for U.S. Navy and Allied Nation pilots, ensuring comprehensive instruction, progress measurement, and curriculum support.

Key Tasks and Responsibilities

  • Conduct instructor-led training for Training Devices and Systems, including pre-flight briefings and post-flight debriefings.
  • Utilize modern training aids, including interactive whiteboards, computers, and video projection systems.
  • Evaluate student mission performance and provide detailed debriefings using FTD replay capabilities.
  • Finalize electronic student grade sheets within the CNATRA Training or Learning Management System.
  • Assess and record trainer performance according to established criteria.
  • Review and recommend improvements for mission scenarios and training curricula.
  • Prepare instructional materials, including lesson plans, tests, and trainee guides.
  • Train personnel on the operation of training devices, including assessment and grading protocols.

Requirements and Qualifications

  • Education: Bachelor’s Degree required.
  • Experience: Must be a current or former Naval Air Training and Operating Procedures Standardization (NATOPS) qualified helicopter pilot, or have served as a TH-57 simulator instructor within the last five years. Must possess a minimum of one deployed fleet tour and 800 flying hours in a helicopter.
  • Communication: Must be fluent in written and spoken English with strong verbal communication skills.
  • Technical Skills: Proficient in personal computers and software applications, including word processing, spreadsheets, and databases.
  • Performance: Ability to influence others to achieve program goals, provide on-the-spot remediation, and successfully complete annual internal standardization evaluations.

Physical Demands and Work Environment

The role requires the ability to sit for extended periods, perform manual tasks (handling/feeling), reach with hands and arms, and talk or hear. The employee must occasionally lift or move up to 20 pounds and possess adequate vision (close, distance, and ability to adjust focus). The work environment typically maintains a moderate noise level.
