Purpose of Position
The Flight Instructor is responsible for delivering exceptional ground and simulator flight instruction, adhering strictly to aviation regulations and established FlightSafety Training principles.
Key Responsibilities
- Conduct comprehensive pilot ground and simulator training for clients enrolled in core, specialty, or enrichment training courses.
- Develop and prepare effective training materials that align with curriculum requirements and meet specific client needs.
- Evaluate trainee progress, measure performance, and provide recommendations for qualification or additional training.
- Maintain accurate and detailed training records for each client to support their success in achieving stated objectives.
- Proactively identify client training challenges and seek necessary assistance prior to course execution.
- Ensure continuous maintenance of instructor qualifications in accordance with all applicable regulatory requirements.
Minimum Qualifications and Experience
- Must be able and willing to participate in FlightSafety’s DOT Drug and Alcohol testing program.
- Possession of an unrestricted Airline Transport Pilot (ATP) certificate or an Airline Transport Pilot License from an ICAO member state.
- If an ATP certificate is not held, the candidate must meet the requirements of 14 CFR part 61.153 and 14 CFR part 61.64, without a Supervised Operating Experience (SOE) limitation.
- A minimum of one unrestricted Pilot-in-Command (PIC) type rating.
- Preferred: Experience in FAR Part 135, FAR Part 121 operations, or military training environments.
- Preferred: A minimum of 2,500 hours of total flight time.
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities
- In-depth knowledge of aviation safety standards and best practices.
- Proficiency in understanding common aviation regulations.
- Demonstrated ability to manage training classes and deliver effective instruction.
- Proficient first-level facilitation skills.
- Excellent first-level customer service skills.
- A coachable attitude and ability to receive constructive feedback to foster professional development.
Physical Demands and Work Environment
This role requires the employee to regularly use hands to manipulate objects, tools, or controls; reach with hands and arms; and communicate verbally or aurally. The employee may be required to stand, walk, sit, climb or balance, stoop, kneel, crouch, or crawl, and possess the sense of taste or smell.
The position necessitates the physical range of motion to perform the following actions:
- Reach, exert pressure, and manipulate rudder controls and/or anti-torque mechanisms with both feet.
- Reach and manipulate numerous controls from the instructor's seat within the simulator device.
- Enter and exit the simulator device via the provided ramp.
- Move efficiently between the instructor station, screen, and podium while conducting classroom instruction.
- Exit a malfunctioning simulator safely, even when the device is in a severely pitched attitude.
- Specific vision abilities are required, including close vision, distance vision, color vision, peripheral vision, depth perception, and the ability to adjust focus.
- The employee must regularly lift and/or move up to 10 pounds, and frequently lift and/or move up to 25 pounds.
- While performing duties, the employee frequently works in proximity to moving mechanical parts.
- The employee may work in high or precarious places, in varying outdoor weather conditions, and may occasionally be exposed to wet or humid conditions, fumes or airborne particles, toxic or caustic chemicals, extreme cold or heat, and risks associated with electrical shock, radiation, or vibration.
