Purpose of Position
The Flight Instructor is responsible for providing exceptional ground and simulator flight instruction, adhering to strict aviation regulations and FlightSafety Training principles.
Tasks and Responsibilities
- Conducts pilot ground and simulator training for clients participating in core, specialty, or enrichment training courses.
- Develops and prepares comprehensive training materials that support the delivery of instruction and meet client needs in accordance with applicable curricula.
- Evaluates and measures trainee progress, making recommendations for qualification or the need for additional training.
- Maintains accurate training records for each client, contributing to their successful achievement of requested objectives.
- Identifies potential client training issues and seeks appropriate assistance prior to instruction execution.
- Ensures personal Instructor qualifications are maintained in accordance with all regulatory requirements.
Minimum Experience
- Must be able and willing to participate in FlightSafety’s DOT Drug and Alcohol testing program.
- Possession of an unrestricted ATP certificate or an ICAO member state Airline Transport Pilot License is required.
- Candidates without an ATP must meet the requirements of:
- 14 CFR part 61.153
- 14 CFR part 61.64 without a Supervised Operating Experience (SOE) limitation.
- Holds a minimum of one unrestricted PIC type rating.
- Preferred: Experience in FAR Part 135, FAR Part 121, or military training.
- Preferred: A minimum of 2,500 hours of total flight time.
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities
- Possesses strong knowledge of aviation safety standards and practices.
- Demonstrates familiarity with common aviation regulations.
- Exhibits the ability to effectively manage classes and provide engaging instruction.
- Applies first-level facilitation skills to guide learning.
- Utilizes first-level customer service skills to support clients.
- Is coachable and receptive to feedback to support continuous professional development.
Physical Demands and Work Environment
While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to use hands for fine manipulation of objects, tools, or controls; reach with hands and arms; and communicate verbally or aurally. The role may involve standing, walking, sitting, climbing, balancing, stooping, kneeling, crouching, crawling, and sensory perception (taste or smell).
The position requires the physical range of body motion necessary to perform the following tasks:
- Reach, exert pressure, and manipulate rudder controls and/or anti-torque pedals with both feet.
- Reach and manipulate numerous controls within a Simulator device from the Instructor’s chair.
- Enter and exit a Simulator device via the provided ramp.
- Move between the Instructor station, screen, and podium while instructing in a classroom setting.
- Safely exit a malfunctioned Simulator while the device is in a severely pitched attitude.
Specific vision abilities required include close vision, distance vision, color vision, peripheral vision, depth perception, and the ability to adjust focus.
The employee must regularly lift and/or move up to 10 pounds and frequently lift and/or move up to 25 pounds.
While performing job duties, the employee frequently works near moving mechanical parts. The employee may work in high, precarious places and in outside weather conditions and is occasionally exposed to wet and/or humid conditions, fumes or airborne particles, toxic or caustic chemicals, extreme cold, extreme heat, risk of electrical shock, risk of radiation, and vibration.
