Purpose of Position
The Flight Instructor plays a critical role in shaping the future of aviation by delivering exceptional ground and simulator-based flight instruction. This individual will adhere to stringent aviation regulations and embody FlightSafety Training's principles while nurturing the skills of aspiring aviators.
Tasks and Responsibilities
- Provide comprehensive pilot ground and simulator training for clients enrolled in core, specialty, and enrichment courses.
- Develop and refine engaging training materials tailored to the specific needs of each client and adhering to the relevant curriculum.
- Meticulously evaluate and measure trainee progress, offering recommendations for qualification or suggesting additional training based on performance.
- Maintain detailed and accurate training records for each client, contributing directly to their success and the achievement of their training objectives.
- Proactively identify potential client training issues and seek appropriate assistance to ensure seamless training execution.
- Remain at the forefront of aviation knowledge by upholding all Instructor qualifications in accordance with regulatory requirements.
Minimum Requirements
- Education: No specific educational requirement.
- Experience:
- Must be willing to participate in FlightSafety's DOT Drug and Alcohol testing program.
- Possession of an unrestricted ATP certificate or an ICAO member state Airline Transport Pilot License.
- In the absence of an ATP, candidates must fulfill the following:
- Adherence to 14 CFR part 61.153.
- Compliance with 14 CFR part 61.64 without a Supervised Operating Experience (SOE) limitation.
- A minimum of one unrestricted PIC type rating.
- Preferred: Experience in FAR Part 135, FAR Part 121, or military training environments.
- Preferred: A minimum of 2,500 hours of total flight time.
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities
- Demonstrated knowledge of aviation safety standards and practices.
- Comprehensive understanding of common aviation regulations.
- Proven ability to effectively manage classes and deliver engaging instruction.
- Strong first-level facilitation skills.
- Excellent first-level customer service skills.
- Openness to coaching, feedback, and continuous professional development.
Physical Demands and Work Environment
This role requires individuals to perform tasks that involve the regular use of hands for operating controls and equipment. The ability to reach, talk, hear, stand, walk, sit, climb, balance, stoop, kneel, crouch, crawl, and utilize taste or smell may be required.
Specifically, the role demands the physical dexterity to:
- Operate rudder controls and anti-torque mechanisms using both feet.
- Reach and manipulate various controls within the simulator environment.
- Navigate the simulator's entry and exit ramp.
- Move between the instructor station, screen, and podium during classroom instruction.
- Safely exit a malfunctioning simulator in a potentially unusual attitude.
Visual acuity for close-up work, distance vision, color perception, peripheral vision, depth perception, and the ability to adjust focus are essential. The role necessitates the ability to lift and move objects weighing up to 10 pounds regularly and up to 25 pounds frequently.
The work environment may include exposure to moving mechanical parts, high places, outdoor weather conditions, wet or humid conditions, fumes, airborne particles, toxic or caustic chemicals, extreme temperatures, electrical hazards, radiation risks, and vibrations.
