Position Summary

The Simulator Second in Command (SIC) plays a crucial role by ensuring continuous currency in assigned aviation programs. This position acts as the "Second-In-Command" for both internal and external Customer Pilots undergoing Recurrent, Initial, or generic training courses within the established training curriculum. The SIC fulfills these duties by performing the following tasks.

Key Responsibilities

  • Serve as Second-in-Command (SIC) for clients training in multi-crew aircraft programs who attend without a flying partner. In this capacity, the SIC functions as a competent crew member and does not perform instructional duties.
  • Maintain SIC pilot qualification diligently in accordance with the specific requirements of all programs assigned.
  • Ensure SIC qualification is upheld in adherence to FlightSafety International’s Quality Management Systems (QMS) processes and procedures.
  • Keep all required certificates, ratings, and designations current to effectively perform duties as an SIC.
  • Act as SIC across various aircraft types for training conducted under Part 142, Part 135, and for non-FAA clients as necessary.

Minimum Education and Experience

A high school diploma or Certificate of High School Equivalency (G.E.D.) demonstrating satisfactory performance in the General Educational Development Testing Program is required, coupled with two to three (2-3) years of related experience and/or training, or an equivalent combination of education and experience.

Prior to assuming SIC duties, applicants must possess the following certificates and meet the minimum experience requirements:

  • Commercial Pilot Certificate with appropriate category, class, and instrument ratings.
  • A minimum of 450 flight hours.

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities

Successful candidates will demonstrate:

  • Fluency in English, encompassing both verbal and written communication, with the ability to speak, understand, read, and write effectively.
  • Excellent cockpit verbal communication skills.
  • The ability to interact professionally with diverse Customers.
  • Adaptability to changing schedules and proficiency in managing high-pressure situations.
  • Note: Proficiency in a second language may be required at some Learning Centers to meet specific operational needs.

Physical Demands and Work Environment

While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to use hands for fingering, handling, or feeling objects, tools, or controls; reach with hands and arms; and communicate verbally or hear. The employee may occasionally be required to stand, walk, sit, climb or balance, stoop, kneel, crouch, or crawl, and taste or smell.

The role necessitates the physical range of body motion to perform specific actions, including:

  1. Reaching, exerting pressure, and manipulating rudder controls and/or anti-torque pedals with both feet.
  2. Reaching and manipulating numerous controls within the Simulator device.
  3. Entering and exiting the Simulator device via the provided ramp.
  4. Exiting from a malfunctioned Simulator while the device is in a severely pitched attitude.

Specific vision abilities required include close vision, distance vision, color vision, peripheral vision, depth perception, and the ability to adjust focus.

The employee must regularly lift and/or move up to 10 pounds and frequently lift and/or move up to 25 pounds.

While performing job duties, the employee frequently works near moving mechanical parts. The employee may occasionally work in high, precarious places or in outside weather conditions, and may be exposed to wet and/or humid conditions, fumes or airborne particles, toxic or caustic chemicals, extreme cold, extreme heat, risk of electrical shock, risk of radiation, and vibration.

The typical noise level in the work environment is usually moderate.
