Position Overview:
The C-17 Pilot Instructor plays a vital role in the ground-based training of C-17 pilots, utilizing a comprehensive Training System (TS) curriculum. This involves delivering engaging instruction, evaluating performance, and providing constructive feedback to ensure the highest standards of proficiency are achieved.
Key Responsibilities:
- Conduct comprehensive training programs for C-17 pilots, utilizing a variety of platforms, including Weapon System Trainers (WST), C-17 aircraft, Computer-Based Trainers (CBT), and other ground-based training resources.
- Deliver expert instruction on air drop, aerial refueling/transport operating procedures, demonstrating proficiency in diagnosing and addressing student performance challenges.
- Maintain an exceptional level of subject matter expertise, continually updating knowledge to reflect the latest industry advancements and best practices.
- Facilitate dynamic briefings and debriefings, offering insightful guidance and mentorship to foster a culture of continuous learning and development.
- Perform administrative duties associated with training, including student progress monitoring, record keeping, and communication with relevant stakeholders.
- Contribute to the ongoing improvement of course materials and training procedures, ensuring alignment with evolving industry standards and organizational objectives.
- Maintain flight proficiency through regular participation in WST flights and occasional observer flights on C-17 aircraft.
- Serve as a subject matter expert for students, personnel, and test events, providing valuable insights and guidance.
- Undertake additional responsibilities, including Flight Check Airman (FCA) duties, Community College of the Air Force (CCAF) Evaluator assignments, and Simulator Certification/Evaluation tasks.
- Actively participate in project development initiatives, contribute to standardization and evaluation boards, and attend relevant conferences and meetings as required.
- Champion safety protocols, contribute to security initiatives, and fulfill hazardous materials responsibilities as assigned.
Qualifications:
- Bachelor's degree required.
- A minimum of eight years of flying experience, with at least five years specifically as a C-17 pilot, including demonstrable expertise in air drop and aerial refueling operations. Candidates with alternative experience levels may be considered with an approved AMC/A3TK waiver.
- A minimum of two years or 200 hours of flight instructor experience, specializing in air drop, aerial refueling, and tactical procedures.
- Recent C-17 flight simulator pilot instructor experience and CATS MECOC certification are highly desirable.
- Exceptional communication skills, both written and verbal, are essential for effective instruction, feedback delivery, and interaction with stakeholders.
- Demonstrated proficiency in utilizing a variety of training equipment, including WST, CBT systems, and classroom presentation technology.
- Working knowledge of instructional principles and theories relevant to Training Systems is essential.
- Proficiency in using personal computers and software applications such as word processing, spreadsheets, and databases is required.
- Must possess an active SECRET Security Clearance.
- This role requires physical agility, including the ability to safely ingress/egress simulators and aircraft. The candidate must be comfortable working in a dynamic environment with varying noise levels and potential exposure to inclement weather conditions.
