Purpose of Position
The Pilot Instructor holds a pivotal role in the execution of simulator-based training within the Weapon System Trainer (WST) environment. This encompasses pre-briefings, debriefings, and comprehensive instruction for U.S. Air Force and Allied Nation KC-46 Pilots participating in Quarterly Refresher training. Key responsibilities include guiding and evaluating the training progress of both Pilot and Maintenance students enrolled in established aircrew training curricula.
Tasks and Responsibilities
The Pilot Instructor's responsibilities encompass a wide range of tasks, including:
- Conducting Quarterly Refresher training utilizing a variety of resources, including classrooms, Computer-based Training (CBT), the WST, and the KC-46 aircraft itself.
- Providing other ground-based training, as needed, for Aircrew Members in tanker and receiver operating procedures, with a focus on diagnosing and addressing student challenges.
- Leading Initial and Recurring training for Maintenance Personnel enrolled in Engine Run courses.
- Conducting thorough briefings and debriefings, and providing individualized counseling to Aircrew Members and Maintenance Personnel to foster and maintain the highest levels of technical expertise and student proficiency.
- Extracting, analyzing, and presenting student performance data for review sessions.
- Serving as a readily available KC-46 Pilot Subject Matter Expert (SME) for students and other relevant personnel.
- Maintaining exemplary standards of instruction, knowledge, capabilities, and expertise.
- Continuously developing and maintaining in-depth knowledge of KC-46 aircraft systems and operating procedures.
- Consistently demonstrating a superior understanding and application of instructional principles and theories related to aircrew training systems.
- Contributing to courseware corrections and modifications, as well as updates to training policies and procedures.
- Providing support for other project and development initiatives, as assigned.
- Managing the Student Management System.
- Performing other duties as assigned.
Minimum Education
- Bachelor's Degree or equivalent combination of education and experience exceeding the minimum experience requirements.
Minimum Experience
- Proven experience as a qualified Tanker Air-to-Air Refueling (AAR) Pilot Flight Instructor or a Tanker AAR Aircrew Training System (ATS) Pilot Instructor. This experience must have been obtained within the past 5 years.
- Minimum of 200 flying hours logged in U.S. Air Force or Allied Nation aircraft, or equivalent flight simulator experience, with at least 50% of those hours acquired in actual aircraft.
- Receiver AAR Instructor experience is highly desirable.
- Type rating in B-767 is preferred.
Knowledge, Skills, Abilities
- Demonstrated ability to ethically and effectively influence others to achieve program objectives.
- Fluency in English, encompassing reading, writing, speaking, and comprehension.
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
- Proficiency in providing on-the-spot remediation and determining appropriate courses of action to support student learning.
- Basic knowledge of personal computers and software applications, including word processing, spreadsheets, and databases.
- Ability to successfully complete an annual internal standardization evaluation.
- Eligibility to obtain and maintain a SECRET clearance.
Physical Demands and Work Environment
This role primarily involves a typical office environment with moderate noise levels, requiring the ability to sit for extended periods, utilize hands and fingers for dexterity, reach with hands and arms, and communicate effectively. Occasional lifting and/or moving of objects weighing up to 20 pounds may be required. The role necessitates close and distance vision with the ability to adjust focus.
