Position Overview: Lead Captain (Challenger 300)

Executive Jet Management, a Berkshire Hathaway company, is seeking a Lead Captain for a Challenger 300 based in Muscle Shoals, AL (KMSL). This established flight department operates under Part 91 regulations with a four-pilot crew and a dedicated maintenance technician. The operation focuses on domestic travel with an average of 450 flight hours annually. Please note that this is not a home-based or commutable position; the successful candidate must reside in or relocate to the Muscle Shoals area.

The Lead Pilot in Command (PIC) serves as a peer-leader for the flight department, focusing on effective crew resource management, client service, and the completion of administrative duties. The Lead PIC actively participates in the flying schedule and adheres to all established PIC expectations.

Key Responsibilities

Flight Department Leadership

  • Manage important client relationships while balancing the needs of the client and EJM.
  • Coordinate with maintenance personnel to ensure compliance with all scheduled and unscheduled aircraft events, including database updates, audits, and checklists.
  • Oversee flight department administration, including invoice reviews, vendor relations, charter approvals, and crew scheduling.
  • Support and motivate crew members to achieve departmental goals while representing the EJM brand.

Operational Safety

  • Ensure all flight assignments are compliant with company and regulatory requirements.
  • Execute flight planning, performance calculations, and weight and balance tasks.
  • Utilize Threat, Plans, and Considerations (TPC) methodology to mitigate operational risks.
  • Enforce company Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs) and serve as the Ground and In-Flight Security Coordinator.
  • Conduct pre-flight tasks, monitor ground servicing, and record aircraft discrepancies.
  • Facilitate passenger briefings and provide high-level customer service, including accommodating special needs.
  • Apply Crew Resource Management (CRM) and Threat and Error Management (TEM) during all phases of flight.

Service Excellence & Compliance

  • Maintain regulatory and company-required training, recency of experience, and crew qualifications.
  • Adhere to the company Safety Management System (SMS) and report all safety or non-compliance concerns.
  • Collaborate with internal partners to provide a consistent service experience and resolve service deviations.

Requirements and Qualifications

  • Prior leadership experience in corporate/business aviation.
  • CL-300 type rating is strongly preferred.
  • Minimum total flight time: 3,500 hours.
  • Minimum Multi-Engine Land (MEL) time: 1,500 hours.
  • Minimum Pilot in Command (PIC) time: 2,000 hours.
  • Minimum PIC MEL time: 500 hours.
  • Minimum Instrument time: 300 hours.
  • Minimum Jet time: 500 hours.
