The Captain reports to the Director of Aviation and is directly responsible for the safe operation of assigned aircraft, as well as the safety of passengers, crew, and cargo. This individual possesses final authority regarding the operation of company aircraft and functions as a fully competent aviation professional with in-depth knowledge and experience. The Captain operates independently with minimal guidance, exercising sound judgment to ensure safe and efficient flight operations.
Responsibilities:
- Adheres to all applicable FARs, manufacturer operating procedures, company and department SOPs, and international aviation rules.
- Complies with schedules and directives governing aircraft operation.
- Ensures aircraft release by qualified maintenance personnel and performs thorough preflight inspections. Determines aircraft airworthiness and delays or cancels flights as necessary for repairs.
- Reviews and calculates weight and balance, fuel load, and aircraft performance to ensure safe flight completion, utilizing checklists.
- Analyzes weather conditions at departure, destination, enroute, and alternate airports to confirm adequate weather minimums for safe flight.
- Prepares and files flight plans and completes aircraft flight logs after each trip.
- Makes informed decisions to start, delay, or cancel flights based on operational conditions and reports unsafe conditions or hazardous weather to ATC.
- Supervises passenger loading, verifies identification, and confirms manifest accuracy for each flight leg.
- Delegates duties to the Second-In-Command (SIC) as needed and coordinates the functioning of all crewmembers. Conducts preflight and post-flight briefings with the flight crew.
- Ensures qualified personnel handle the aircraft and supervise servicing, towing, or storage away from the home base.
- Oversees maintenance work on assigned aircraft to ensure a thorough understanding of issues and corrective actions.
- Maintains currency and proficiency in assigned aircraft types (maximum two aircraft requiring type ratings).
- Maintains personal records, including FAA medical certificate, FAA airman certificates, passport, and proficiency checks, providing copies to the Director of Aviation.
- Acts as SIC and performs SIC duties as required.
- Completes secondary non-flying activities as assigned by the Director of Aviation.
Qualifications:
- Bachelor’s degree preferred.
- Meets all FAA requirements to serve as Pilot-in-Command.
- Holds an Airline Transport Pilot (ATP) certificate with appropriate type ratings.
- Minimum of 5,000 total flight hours, including 500 hours in jet aircraft; Gulfstream experience is desirable.
- Possesses a valid FAA First Class Medical Certificate.
- Holds a Multi-Engine Airline Transport Pilot Certificate.
- Possesses an FCC radio telephone permit.
- Meets all currency requirements regarding instrument flight time and night landings.
- Ability to pass an instrument competency check in the category of aircraft to be flown.
