Position Summary

The Pilot in Command reports to the Lead Captain concerning company operating policies and procedures. This role is paramount for the safe and efficient execution of flight assignments, with a primary emphasis on safety, security, and quality. The Pilot in Command holds ultimate authority for the safe conduct of all assigned flights.

Minimum Requirements

  • Airline Transport Pilot Certificate with appropriate Aircraft Type Rating.
  • Valid FAA First Class Medical Certificate.
  • 3500 hours Total Fixed Wing flight time.
  • 1500 hours Multi-Engine Land flight time.
  • 1500 hours Pilot-in-Command flight time.
  • 1500 hours Turbojet flight time.
  • 500 hours Turbine flight time.
  • 100 hours Night flight time.
  • 75 hours Actual or Simulated Instrument flight time.
  • A minimum of 5 years of aviation experience.
  • Availability to work flexible schedules.
  • Willingness and ability to travel extensively worldwide without restrictions.
  • Possession of a valid driver's license with a clean driving record.

Main Responsibilities

  • Safely operate aircraft, determining departure times, routes, and the necessity to cancel flights based on weather or other conditions.
  • Ensure all flights are conducted in strict compliance with federal, local, and company regulations, policies, and procedures.
  • Implement all necessary changes dictated by en route conditions to ensure flight continuation under appropriate company policies, procedures, and rules.
  • Conduct flights in a safe and prudent manner, adhering to industry and company standards.
  • Accurately complete all trip paperwork in accordance with current procedures.
  • Ensure a thorough understanding of all flight aspects with the Second in Command.
  • Document all aircraft discrepancies on the aircraft discrepancy log and report them immediately to the Director of Maintenance or their designee. Determine deferral or repair needs based on the approved Minimum Equipment List (MEL) and guidance from the DOM or designee, and complete the discrepancy log accordingly.
  • Verify that the flight crew reports for duty in proper attire and is mentally and physically fit for duty.
  • Maintain comprehensive knowledge of all authorized aircraft systems, including emergency systems and procedures.
  • Secure the aircraft after each flight, including arranging hangar storage when necessary or instructed by company management.
  • Obtain current weather reports, forecasts, and NOTAMs from an FAA flight service station or other authorized agency.
  • File or ensure a flight plan is filed with the FAA or an ICAO state ATC facility.
  • Analyze area, enroute, and terminal charts for the airport of intended landing and alternates.
  • Perform the functions of the In TSA Flight Security Coordinator (ISC) as applicable under the twelve five standard security program or private charter standard security program.
  • Conduct required passenger safety briefings or assign this duty to the Second in Command.
  • Impart knowledge and skills to the Second in Command to prepare them for assuming Pilot in Command duties in an emergency or during upgrade.
  • Complete and submit the leg manifest to operations control prior to each departure.
  • Complete and submit the End of Day (EOD) report to operations control upon completion of each flight day.
  • Actively support the open sharing of information on all safety issues and report all safety hazards and concerns.
  • Report any hazardous action, conduct, or event immediately to the Chief Pilot and Director of Safety.
  • While duties may be delegated, the responsibility for those duties remains with the Pilot in Command.
  • Perform other duties as required.
  • Represent Jet Aviation as a unified company internally and externally with industry groups, regulatory bodies, and the General Dynamics network.

Physical Demands

The physical demands described are representative of those required to perform the essential functions of this job. Occasional climbing, balancing, kneeling, crouching, or crawling may be required. The employee must be able to frequently lift and/or move up to 25 pounds and occasionally lift and/or move up to 50 pounds above their heads. Specific vision abilities required include close vision, distance vision, color vision, peripheral vision, depth perception, and the ability to adjust and focus.

Work Environment

The work environment characteristics described are representative of those an employee encounters while performing the essential functions of this job. Employees must be capable of working in both heavy maintenance environments and upscale customer areas. The noise level is typically moderate, with occasional high volume during aircraft arrivals/departures. The employee is frequently exposed to vibration and occasional fuel fumes. Employees must be willing and able to work in all weather conditions. The hangar environment may experience extreme heat and cold during certain seasons.
