Position Summary

The Pilot in Command assumes ultimate responsibility for the safe, secure, and efficient execution of all assigned flight operations. Reporting directly to the Lead Captain, the Pilot in Command exercises absolute authority over the aircraft and crew during flight, serving as the final authority for safe conduct. This pivotal role ensures strict adherence to all federal, local, and company operating policies and procedures, with an unwavering commitment to safety, security, and quality.

Minimum Requirements

  • Possession of an Airline Transport Pilot Certificate (ATP) with appropriate Aircraft Type Rating.
  • Ability to obtain and maintain an FAA First Class Medical Certificate.
  • Minimum 3,500 hours Total Fixed Wing flight time.
  • Minimum 1,500 hours Multi-Engine Land flight time.
  • Minimum 1,500 hours Pilot-in-Command (PIC) flight time.
  • Minimum 1,500 hours Turbojet flight time.
  • Minimum 500 hours Turbine flight time.
  • Minimum 100 hours Night flight time.
  • Minimum 75 hours Actual or Simulated Instrument flight time.
  • At least 5 years of professional aviation experience.
  • Must be capable of working flexible schedules, including irregular hours and on-call availability.
  • Willingness and ability to travel worldwide extensively without restrictions.
  • Possession of a valid driver's license with a clean driving record.

Main Responsibilities

The Pilot in Command's responsibilities include, but are not limited to, the following key functions:

  • Operating the aircraft safely, determining optimal departure times and routes, and making critical decisions to cancel flights based on adverse weather or other operational conditions.
  • Ensuring complete compliance of every flight with all federal, local, and company regulations, policies, and procedures.
  • Implementing all necessary changes as required by en route conditions, ensuring the flight continues under appropriate company policies, procedures, and rules.
  • Conducting all flights in a safe and prudent manner, adhering strictly to industry best practices and company standards.
  • Ensuring accurate and timely completion of all required trip paperwork in accordance with current procedures.
  • Fostering a thorough and complete understanding with the Second in Command regarding all aspects of flight operations and duties.
  • Promptly recording all aircraft discrepancies on the aircraft discrepancy log and immediately reporting them to the Director of Maintenance (DOM) or their designee. Consulting the Approved Minimum Equipment List (MEL) as directed by the DOM to determine deferment or necessary repair actions.
  • Verifying that all flight crew members report for duty in proper attire and are mentally and physically fit for their assigned duties.
  • Maintaining a comprehensive working knowledge of all aircraft systems authorized for operation, including all emergency systems and associated procedures.
  • Securing the aircraft after each flight, which may include arranging hangar storage if deemed necessary or instructed by company management.
  • Obtaining the most current weather reports, forecasts, and NOTAMs from authorized FAA flight service stations or other approved agencies.
  • Filing or ensuring the proper filing of a flight plan with the FAA or an ICAO state Air Traffic Control (ATC) facility.
  • Analyzing area, enroute, and terminal charts for the airport of intended landing and designated alternates.
  • Performing the functions of the In TSA Flight Security Coordinator (ISC) under the applicable provisions of the Twelve-Five Standard Security Program or Private Charter Standard Security Program.
  • Conducting or assigning passenger safety briefings to the Second in Command.
  • Imparting essential knowledge and skills to the Second in Command to prepare them for assuming Pilot in Command duties in an emergency or during their eventual upgrade.
  • Completing and transmitting the leg manifest to operations control prior to each departure.
  • Completing and transmitting the End of Day (EOD) report to operations control upon completion of each flight day.
  • Actively supporting the open sharing of information on all safety issues and immediately reporting all safety hazards and concerns to the Chief Pilot and Director of Safety.
  • Delegating duties as necessary while retaining ultimate responsibility for their proper execution.
  • Performing other duties as required to support flight operations and company objectives.
  • Representing Jet Aviation as a unified entity, both internally and externally with industry groups, regulatory bodies, and the General Dynamics network.

Physical Demands

The physical demands described herein are representative of those an employee must meet to successfully perform the essential functions of this role. Work Environment

The work environment characteristics described herein are representative of those an employee encounters while performing the essential functions of this role. The Pilot in Command must be able to operate effectively in both a heavy maintenance environment and upscale customer areas. The noise level is typically moderate but can become high when aircraft arrive or depart. Employees are frequently exposed to vibration and occasionally to fuel fumes. The ability to work comfortably in all types of weather conditions is essential. Hangar environments may experience extreme temperatures, both hot and cold, during certain seasons of the year.
