Reporting directly to the Chief Pilot, the Captain position offers a minimum guarantee of seventy-two (72) hours per month. The successful candidate must hold a type rating on multi-engine aircraft, with preference given to those typed on the B-737. A first-class medical certificate is preferred. A thorough knowledge and understanding of all relevant Federal Aviation Regulations (FARs) are essential. Strong communication skills are required, along with the ability to embody the company's values, collaborate effectively with team members, and interact professionally with customers in a dynamic environment.

Key Responsibilities:

The Captain assumes command of, and responsibility for, the flight crew, passengers, cargo, and the overall safe conduct of the flight. This role involves providing guidance, coordinating crew activities, and making critical decisions while adhering to Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs). The Captain is expected to:

  • Serve as the final authority for the safe operation of the aircraft.
  • Direct the activities of the First Officer, ensuring clear understanding of duties.
  • Verify the assigned aircraft is airworthy and all required documents are aboard.
  • Make necessary decisions regarding flight initiation, delay, cancellation, or deviation based on operating conditions.
  • Ensure the correct amount and grade of fuel is loaded.
  • Obtain detailed briefings on flight purpose, weather, procedures, and instructions, coordinating flight assignments.
  • Provide immediate notification to the SOC of any deviation from the flight plan, including details and reasons.
  • Conduct thorough reviews of flight plans, considering altitude, terrain, weather, range, weight, airport facilities, and navigational aids.
  • Confirm weather and aircraft performance meet the requirements of the applicable CFR under which the flight is conducted.
  • Ensure the flight plan or authorized flight locating procedure is followed on each flight.
  • Ensure the aircraft weight and balance form/manifest is properly completed, signed, and distributed.
  • Promptly report all known or suspected FAA violations or incidents to appropriate personnel.
  • Maintain a current First-Class medical certificate and notify management if a medical condition impairs flight ability.
  • Ensure required VOR checks and other aircraft equipment checks are properly performed.
  • Ensure crewmembers provide appropriate passenger briefings for each phase of flight.
  • Ensure required equipment, passenger comfort provisions, and cargo are properly secured aboard.
  • Oversee the preparation of flight logs, reporting of mechanical irregularities, and maintenance recording.
  • Ensure maintenance write-ups are passed to maintenance personnel and they are alerted to the aircraft's status.
  • Determine the applicability of regulations to each flight.
  • Ensure all required Aircraft and Pilot manuals (hardcopy or EFB) are available and current.
  • Confirm the flight crew is adequately rested and properly dressed.
  • Ensure the aircraft is clean and prepared for flight with all necessary stores and provisions.
  • Operate aircraft at favorable altitudes, considering turbulence, oxygen requirements, and passenger comfort.
  • Enter flight and duty time into the company system or contact the Aircraft Dispatcher for assistance.
  • Maintain frequent radio or telephone contact with the SOC during flight for prompt message conveyance.

The Captain may delegate functions but retains ultimate responsibility for those functions. Eastern Air Express promotes strong Crew Resource Management (CRM), encouraging First Officers to voice concerns regarding flight safety, even if it challenges the Captain's decisions.

Qualifications:

Candidates must meet the following requirements:

  • Minimum of 7000 hours total flying time, accumulated only in the operating seat of turboprop and/or turbojet aircraft.
  • Minimum of 2000 hours Pilot-in-Command (PIC) time on multi-crew, multi-engine, commercial aircraft.
  • Previous experience must include wide-body aircraft PIC time, preferably on the B767 or B777.
  • Valid FAA Airline Transport Pilot (ATP) License.
  • Valid FAA First Class Medical Certificate.
  • Valid Restricted Radiotelephone Operator Permit.
  • Valid Driver’s License.
  • English proficiency consistent with at least ICAO Level 4 endorsement.
  • Passport allowing worldwide travel.
  • Must be authorized to work in the United States.
  • Maintain an impeccable safety and training record.
  • Must have at least 1,000 hours of flight time under Part 121 operations.
  • Ability to multitask and perform effectively under pressure in a dynamic environment.
  • Ability to bid work schedule by seniority (days, swings, or midnight shifts and holidays).
  • Availability for required travel.
  • Ability to pass a drug and alcohol background check, pre-employment DOT drug test, and Criminal History Records Check (CHRC).
  • Must possess a valid U.S. Passport.
  • Eligibility to work in the United States (US Passport or Green Card holder).
  • If being considered for a Direct Entry Captain position, must meet FAR 121.436 requirements.

Location:

This is a Home-Based position. Captains may reside anywhere within the continental 48 states east of Denver (including Denver and Colorado Springs). A designated home airport must be within 2 hours of surface travel from the residence. The home airport must be served by two major airlines (Delta, American, United, or Southwest), with each airline having a minimum of 3 daily flights. Flights on regional feeder airlines ticketed under the major airline's name are acceptable. The company will provide travel starting and stopping at the designated home base. Parking and ground transportation expenses at the home base are the responsibility of the Captain. Home base assignment is provided upon hire and may be changed a maximum of once every 6 months with a 30-day advance request and HR approval.
