The Team Lead – Pilot Leaves oversees all short and long term leave of absence programs and the team that administers them for Delta pilots. The position is responsible for the policies, processes and procedures used by the Pilot Leaves teams as well as the escalation resource when the Sr. Coordinator is unable to resolve at the first point of contact.

Summary of responsibilities (not comprehensive of all tasks):

+ Team Leader will be responsible for the processes, policies, and procedures governing all pilot sick leave, personal leave, military leave, maternity leave, bonding leave, parental leave, legal duty, OJIs / accident leave, FMLA, disability, FAA leave, and conflict of interest / outside flying transactions.

+ Lead a team that is responsible for reviewing and approving required leave of absence documentation, analyzing pilot reports, researching pilot use of leave and creation of individual pilot leave cases.

+ Processing of all resulting pilot schedule transactions, benefits transactions, inactive payroll transactions and associated return to work processing.

+ Identify trends, research issues, and find solutions brought forward from the coordinators, pilots, ALPA, CPOs, and leaders.

+ Provides oversite of operational calls and walk-in’s from pilots as well as escalations from Sr. Coordinators.

+ Owns the relationship between the Pilot Leaves team and other FOP stakeholders as well as multiple third-party benefits partners.

+ Ensures the team evaluates and processes each case in compliance with the PWA, administrative policies, and practices as well as reviews changes to corporate policies, state and federal laws, and contractual language to ensure ongoing compliance.

+ The position is structured within the Flying Operations organization and provides leave of absence support to the seven pilot flight crew bases and respective Chief Pilots.

+ Position will have 2-3 direct reports and report to the Manager – Pilot Leaves.

What you need to succeed (minimum qualifications)

+ Consistently prioritizes safety and security of self, others, and personal data.

+ Embraces diverse people, thinking, and styles.

+ Possesses a high school diploma, GED, or high school equivalency.

+ Is at least 18 years of age and has authorization to work in the United States.

+ Candidate must have strong analytical, organizational and decision-making skills.

+ Should have 3 or more years’ experience in Flight Operations and strong knowledge of DBMS.

+ Proficient knowledge of Deltanet, Flight Operations Manual (FOM), Federal Aviation Requirements (FARs), and Pilot Working Agreement (PWA) is required.

+ Experience interacting with Crew Scheduling, Tracking, Training and Crew Resources.

+ Must be able to lead and communicate with pilots regarding proprietary, confidential, legal, complex, or sensitive issues.

+ Should be able to effectively manage multiple complex operational and administrative issues simultaneously.

+ Must be able to relate to the pilot profession in order to maintain an attitude of pilot advocacy for each line pilot.

+ Lead a team of five with a direct report to the Pilot Leaves Manager

+ Practices safety-conscious behaviors in all operational processes and procedures.

+ Prior experience with Pilot Assist, Pilot Leaves, Crew Scheduling, the Chief Pilot Office, Crew Resources, or relevant operational experience is highly preferred.

+ Strong written and verbal communications skills is required.

+ Must be able to relate to the pilot profession in order to maintain an attitude of pilot advocacy for each line pilot.

+ Experience in HR systems, to include SAP.

+ Should be performing satisfactorily in present position

What will give you a competitive edge (preferred qualifications)

+ Previous experience with Smartsheet Software.

+ Possession of an advanced education or operational background

+ A diverse background in Delta’s various operational departments is strongly recommended.

+ Should be able to effectively manage multiple complex operational, administrative, and/or personnel issues simultaneously.

+ Should have 5 or more years’ experience in airline operations with at least 3 years in Flight Operations.

+ Previous Delta supervisory experience
