A leading aviation management company is seeking a highly skilled, experienced, and safety-focused individual to serve as a Lead Captain for a private Part 91 Challenger 605 operation. Mandatory Requirement: Candidates must hold the required type rating and reside within a two (2) hour drivable commuting distance to KOXC.

Role Summary and Responsibilities

The Lead Captain serves a dual function, acting as a crucial flight crewmember while simultaneously managing departmental administration and communications. The successful candidate ensures seamless operational coordination and effective communication between the assigned account and the company's management team, including the Account Manager (ACM), Director of Maintenance (DOM), Director of Training, Assistant Chief Pilot (ACP), and Trip Support Specialists.

Core Duties and Management Responsibilities

The Lead Captain is responsible for ensuring crew compliance with all applicable regulatory standards (with reasonable adherence to Part 135 standards where applicable under Part 91 operations), operational directives, and Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs). Key responsibilities include:

  • Serving as Pilot in Command (PIC) or Second in Command (SIC) as designated.
  • Ensuring comprehensive compliance with flight, maintenance schedules, and all governing operational directives for the aircraft.
  • Managing pre-flight and post-flight duties and inspections in accordance with the Aircraft Flight Manual (AFM).
  • Facilitating the coordination of training events and crew scheduling, including managing days off and vacation requests, communicating these to the ACP for scheduling, and seeking owner approval via the ACM when necessary.
  • Monitoring crew member performance and providing feedback to the Assistant Chief Pilot (ACP) for use in annual performance reviews.
  • Completing and approving crew expense reports in strict adherence to company policy.
  • Reviewing monthly billing summaries and reporting any discrepancies to the accounting department and ACM.
  • Conducting monthly reviews of crew currency and forthcoming training/evaluation requirements.
  • Performing annual aircraft black book audits in collaboration with Flight Operations and the ACP.
  • Acting as a liaison between the flight department, the ACP, and the Director of Training.

Maintenance and Coordination

  • Maintaining awareness of scheduled and unscheduled maintenance events.
  • Assisting in the resolution and communication of mechanical Aircraft On Ground (AOG) events when required.
  • Reviewing monthly work order invoices.
  • Coordinating and communicating all maintenance-related items and squawks effectively with the Maintenance Controller (or DOM) and scheduling specialists.

Administrative and Cultural Leadership

This role demands strong leadership in cultivating positive working relationships and perpetuating company culture and ideals within the flight department. Additional responsibilities include:

  • Communicating all trip-related requests or changes from the aircraft owner (or charter client) to the Charter Department and the Chief Pilot’s office.
  • Mediating and fostering excellent internal working relationships within the Flight Department.
  • Cultivating and maintaining positive relationships with all external stakeholders.
  • Working collaboratively with the ACM to manage the overall aircraft owner experience.
  • Participating, in conjunction with the ACP/Chief Pilots, in the interview and selection process for new flight department personnel.
  • Providing constructive feedback to increase the efficiency of internal processes and procedures via the ACM or Safety Management System.

Required Qualifications, Competencies, and Experience

Minimum Required Education and Experience

Candidates must possess the experience necessary to safely operate the assigned aircraft in full compliance with Company Operational Specifications, the General Operations Manual, and the Flight Operations Manual, while simultaneously fulfilling account management expectations.

  • Certificates: Airline Transport Pilot (ATP) certificate required, with maintenance of flight currency.
  • Medical: First Class Medical Certificate required.
  • Type Rating: Bombardier CL-604 type rating is mandatory.
  • Regulatory Knowledge: Comprehensive knowledge of applicable FAA Part 91 and/or FAA Part 135 requirements for the aircraft type assigned.
  • Screening: Must successfully pass a Pre-Employment Drug Screening and Background Check.
