Direct Entry Pilot – Long-haul

Candidate Requirements
To be considered for a Long-haul Direct Entry Pilot position, candidates must meet the following criteria at the time of application:
- Minimum of 1500 hours total flight time.
- 500 hours on a relevant aeroplane type. This experience must include flying the relevant aeroplane type within the last 12 months.
- Relevant aeroplane type is defined as a multi-pilot turbo-jet aircraft certified to CS-25 standards or equivalent, or a multi-pilot turbo-prop aeroplane with a maximum certificated take-off mass of not less than 10 tonnes or a certified passenger seating configuration of more than 19 passengers.
- Up to 100 hours of simulator time may be included in the total flight time requirement.
- For Zero Flight Time Training (ZFTT), relevant aeroplane type experience must be within 12 months preceding the commencement of a ZFTT Conversion course.
- Must meet ATPL (Airline Transport Pilot Licence) requirements. If the licence has not yet been upgraded, this will be completed during the type rating.
- Possession of a current UK issued CAA Flight Crew Licence ATPL(A), fATPL(A) or MPL (with the hours requirements to upgrade to an ATPL).
- Alternatively, hold a non-UK ATPL licence and meet the UK CAA's Third Country CPL and ATPL licence conversion requirements effective from 1 January 2023 (routes 1, 2, 3, 4, 5, or 6).
- Hold a valid Class 1 medical certificate, which must be UK CAA issued before a job offer is made.
- Height must be between 1.57m (5'2") and 1.91m (6'3"). Applicants taller than 1.91m may apply but will undergo a functionality check.
- Good level of physical fitness.
- Spoken and written English at ICAO Level 6.
- Valid passport with a minimum of 12 months remaining before expiry.
- Ability to comply with British Airways' uniform standards, with tattoos permissible if not on the hands, face, or head.
- Ability to swim 50m (55 yards), tread water for 3 minutes, and assist others in water, including fitting a lifejacket and pulling body weight out of the water into a life raft.

Important Information
Job opportunities are available on all fleets. CCQ (Command Upgrade Course) courses are currently only available on long-haul Airbus fleets. Information regarding non-UK licence holders and the reapplication process is available. Successful candidates will enter a hold pool and will be extended a maximum of two job offers. Long-haul suitability will be assessed during the simulator assessment; candidates not meeting long-haul requirements may be offered a role on the short-haul fleet.
