British Airways | A320 Captain

Heathrow or Gatwick, United Kingdom

British Airways Direct Entry First Officer

British Airways invites applications for Direct Entry First Officer positions within its long-haul fleet, based at Heathrow Airport. The airline, a global leader connecting Britain to the world, offers a unique opportunity to join a prestigious team operating one of the most modern and efficient fleets globally.

The Role

First Officers at British Airways play a crucial role in delivering exceptional passenger experiences across a vast international network. The position demands the highest professional standards and offers continuous challenges within a dynamic and exciting aviation environment. Career progression is not predetermined; following an initial period on the short-haul Airbus fleet, pilots can elect to transition to long-haul operations or progress to a Captaincy within the short-haul division. Opportunities extend beyond flying, with diverse roles available in training and recruitment, fostering a rich career trajectory. A competitive compensation and benefits package accompanies this exceptional professional development.

Essential Requirements

Fleet Allocation

Initial appointments will primarily focus on the A320 and Boeing 777 fleets (777 operations from LHR and LGW; 777X operations upon service commencement). A limited number of positions exist on other fleets, prioritized based on existing aircraft type ratings. Internal fleet transfers operate on a seniority basis. (Hotel accommodation provided for LGW 777 flights exceeding 8 hours, excluding positioning sectors.)

Application Process and Important Considerations

Candidates who were previously unsuccessful at any stage of the recruitment process may reapply after 6 months (initial screening, video interview, capacity testing, or assessment centre) or 12 months (simulator stage). Simultaneous applications across the British Airways family (British Airways, Euroflyer, or Cityflyer) are not permitted. Long-haul suitability will be assessed during simulator evaluation. A limited number of long-haul positions are available; A320 remains the primary recruitment fleet. Successful candidates enter a hold pool, receiving a maximum of two job offers; rejection of a second offer necessitates reapplication after 12 months. Current BA Cityflyer pilots must apply via Jobsearch.
