Essential Requirements for ATP and R-ATP Holders
Successful candidates must demonstrate a commitment to safety and professionalism, meeting the following criteria:
- Possess a current and unrestricted FAA ATP certificate or a restricted ATP certificate (R-ATP), encompassing an airplane category multi-engine class rating and English proficiency endorsement.
- Hold a current FAA Class 1 Medical Certificate.
- Maintain an FCC Restricted Radiotelephone Operator Permit.
- Possess a valid passport with a minimum of 24 months validity remaining, free of any international travel restrictions, and with the ability to obtain entry visas for countries within Atlas Air's operational network.
- Ensure legal name consistency across all official documents, including passports, employment authorization (if applicable), and FAA licenses and permits.
- Demonstrate the ability to secure a CANPASS permit (Canadian Customs program).
- Provide proof of legal authorization to work in the United States through appropriate documentation, such as a U.S. citizenship, a permanent resident 'green card,' an EAD, or another valid legal basis.
- Successfully complete a DOT pre-employment drug test.
- Meet the minimum age requirement of 21 years for R-ATP holders or 23 years for ATP holders, adhering to FAA 121 mandatory retirement regulations.
- Successfully pass a comprehensive 10-year security background check, including PRIA (Pilot Records Improvement Act) and PRD (Pilot Records Database) evaluations.
- Present 5 years of verifiable domestic and/or foreign (if applicable) training records or equivalent supporting documentation.
- Demonstrate flexibility to work varying schedules, including reserve duty, weekends, evenings, and holidays.
- Possess a thorough understanding and working knowledge of all Federal Aviation Regulations pertinent to FAR Part 121 Operations.
- Adhere to the Atlas Air First Officer Crewmember Uniform Appearance Standards.
- Exhibit excellent communication skills.
- Demonstrate proven leadership ability.
- Possess accurate and timely decision-making skills.
Flight Hour Requirements
Candidates must fulfill one of the following flight hour requirements:
- Minimum 1000 hours of fixed-wing flight time.
- 500 hours of fixed-wing flight time under FAA FAR part 121 or 135 (or equivalent foreign operations – e.g., 705 Canadian).
- 250 PIC hours of fixed-wing flight time for rotary Military flight-training graduates.
Total Time Requirements:
Candidates must meet the required minimum of 1,500 total flight hours with the following exceptions:
- 1,250 total hours with a qualifying 2-year aviation university program.
- 1,000 total hours with a qualifying 4-year aviation university program.
- 750 total hours for military flight-training graduates.
Note: ATP Certificates issued with a “CIRC APCH-VMC Only” limitation are acceptable.
Preferred Qualifications:
While not mandatory, possessing the following qualifications will strengthen your candidacy:
- 2500 hours of total flight time operating in an FAA part 121, 135, 91 or Military environment.
- 500 hours of turbine time.
- Recent flying experience (greater than 200 hours within the last 12 months).
- Significant experience in one or more of the following: wide-body aircraft, PIC, Military, international flights, complex avionics (e.g., Boeing Honeywell, Boeing Collins, Collins Proline, Garmin G500/G1000/G3000/G5000).
- Multi-crew experience with knowledge of CRM/TEM.
- Experience operating in complex airspace with significant experience in sophisticated instrument work, e.g., LNAV/VNAV or RNAV approaches and/or FMC manipulation.
- Bachelor’s Degree in Aviation Flight, Aviation Management, or a related field; or equivalent experience.
Note: Atlas Air considers numerous factors when evaluating flight hours, including complexity of aircraft flown, the nature and type of flight operations, and the recency, quality, quantity, and verifiability of flight time and associated logs.
Candidates without an ATP Certificate
Atlas Air offers highly qualified candidates the opportunity to complete the ATP certification course. Pilots must meet all pre-requisites for obtaining an ATP listed above and the full ATP minimum flight hour criteria defined by FAR 61.159:
- 1500 Total Flight Time
- 250 Pilot-In-Command (PIC) hours fixed wing
- 500 Total Cross Country hours or 200 hours for a restricted ATP (R-ATP) under FAR 1.160 (f)
- 100 Cross Country PIC hours
- 100 Night Flight Time hours
- 25 Night PIC hours
- 75 Instrument Training hours
- 50 Multi-Engine Land hours
