The Amgen Flight Department plays a crucial role in supporting the global travel requirements of senior executives, operating a modern fleet that currently includes Gulfstream G-280 and Gulfstream G-550 aircraft, with a Gulfstream G-600 anticipated for delivery in January. The department upholds the highest safety standards, demonstrated by its Stage 3 certification with the International Business Aviation Council’s (IBAC) International Standards of Business Aviation Operations (IS-BAO), with passenger safety and care as its paramount focus.

The Role

Amgen is seeking a highly qualified and experienced Senior Captain to join its distinguished Aviation team in Camarillo, California. This vital role is central to ensuring the safe, efficient, and compliant air transportation of Amgen's senior executives worldwide. The Senior Captain will be instrumental in upholding the department's unwavering commitment to safety, operational excellence, and professional integrity within a structured, world-class aviation environment.

Key Responsibilities

  • Conduct thorough pre-flight planning, including comprehensive weather analysis, NOTAM review, and accurate determination of fuel, oil, and oxygen requirements.
  • Precisely calculate aircraft weight and balance to ensure safe operation.
  • Verify the validity of all aircraft crew members' licenses, medical certificates, passports, and visas as required for international and domestic operations.
  • Perform meticulous aircraft pre-flight inspections before each departure.
  • Deliver comprehensive and professional passenger briefings in accordance with regulatory and company requirements.
  • Operate the aircraft in strict adherence to established operator procedures and aircraft limitations.
  • Maintain full compliance with all applicable customs, immigration, and cabotage laws.
  • Execute all post-flight duties diligently, including prompt notification to the company of any deviations from the planned itinerary or overnight location.
  • Accurately record flight times and aircraft defects.

Qualifications

Basic Qualifications:

  • Gulfstream G600 Aircraft Experience OR Gulfstream G280 Aircraft Experience.
  • Possession of a Doctorate degree with a minimum of two (2) years of aviation experience; OR a Master’s degree with four (4) years of aviation experience; OR a Bachelor’s degree with six (6) years of aviation experience; OR an Associate’s degree with ten (10) years of aviation experience; OR a High school diploma / GED with ten (10) years of aviation experience.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Demonstrated experience with both Gulfstream G600 AND Gulfstream G280 Aircraft.

Technical Experience & Professional Attributes:

  • Holds an Airline Transport Pilot License (ATP), Multi-Engine Land rating.
  • Possesses a First Class FAA Medical Certificate.
  • Holds an FCC Radio Telephone Operator Permit.
  • Minimum total flight time of 5,000 hours.
  • Minimum Pilot-in-Command (PIC) time of 2,000 hours.
  • Minimum Multi-Engine time of 2,000 hours.
  • Minimum Jet time of 1,000 hours.
  • A minimum of 100 hours in the Make/Model of the operated aircraft is preferred.
  • Actual instrument and night time comprising at least 10% of total time.
  • Recent and extensive long-range, international business jet experience.
  • Strong decision-making abilities as a professional aviator.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills in the English language.
  • Profound focus on safety and a demonstrated ability to foster a safety-first environment.
  • Capacity to thrive within a structured, standardized environment, emphasizing professional integrity, Crew Resource Management (CRM), and world-class operational standards.
  • Impeccable record, free from aircraft accidents, incidents, or violations.
