Job ID: R0126665
Location: Las Vegas, NV
Employment Type: Full-Time
Summary:
This position offers the opportunity to join a dynamic team as a First Officer, co-piloting Boeing 737 aircraft to transport passengers and cargo. As Second in Command, the First Officer will be responsible for supporting the Pilot in Command, assuming command in the event of incapacitation, and ensuring the safe and efficient operation of the aircraft.
Responsibilities:
- Assist the Pilot in Command in piloting the B737 aircraft.
- Monitor all aspects of flight operations to ensure safety and proper functionality of aircraft systems.
- Communicate with Air Traffic Control using standard aviation terminology.
- Review maintenance logs, weather reports, forecasts, and Notices to Airmen (NOTAMs).
- Demonstrate a comprehensive understanding of Federal Aviation Regulations (FARs), Airman Information Manual (AIM), company Flight Operations Manual (FOM), aircraft manufacturer Flight Crew Operations Manual (FCOM), Flight Crew Training Manual (FCTM), and Quick Reference Handbook (QRH).
- Calculate performance data and determine the aircraft's weight and balance.
Work Environment and Physical Demands:
The First Officer's work is primarily performed in the cockpit of a B737 aircraft, which is a confined space subject to high noise levels, extreme temperatures, and low humidity. The role may expose the individual to physical and mental stress due to in-flight emergencies, inclement weather conditions, high noise levels, and other environmental discomforts.
While primarily sedentary, the role requires occasional walking, bending, stretching, climbing, and manipulation of controls from a seated position. The position demands significant physical strength, including:
- 40 pounds of arm/shoulder strength to twist a steering wheel.
- 100 pounds of arm/shoulder strength to push/pull a yoke.
- 130 pounds of leg strength to push rudder pedals.
- Lifting, extending, and setting up to 30 pounds in various arm/shoulder positions.
Corrected vision to 20/20 at near, mid, and far ranges, as well as full color recognition, is essential. The First Officer must also be able to hear, correctly interpret, and respond verbally in English, even in the presence of office-level background noise.
Mental Demands:
The role demands the ability to compartmentalize personal stresses, maintaining a high level of focus and concentration during flight operations. This includes:
- Recalling and applying a broad range of knowledge.
- Performing accurate and rapid math calculations, including multiplication and division, in real-time.
- Remembering and executing checklists at specific points during flight.
- Maintaining situational awareness of the aircraft's position, attitude, and configuration while processing various sensory cues.
- Evaluating alternative courses of action and selecting the optimal solution for a given situation.
While routine operations are expected, the work can be punctuated by periods of extreme stress due to factors such as mechanical failure, adverse weather, low fuel, loss of pressurization, in-flight fire, temporary loss of control, imminent ground or aircraft collision, and other unexpected events. In such situations, the First Officer must be able to:
- Evaluate alternatives.
- Prioritize corrective tasks.
- Take appropriate actions.
- Resist mental paralysis caused by fear or sensory overload.
Minimum Requirements:
- US DOT/FAA First Class Medical Certificate (with EKG if over 39 years old).
- US DOT/FAA Airline Transport Pilot certificate (ATP) or meet the requirements to complete an ATP Certification Training Program (CTP) in conjunction with a B737 Type course.
- 3,000 total hours as a pilot of crew and/or general aviation (GA) aircraft, or 1,500 total hours as a pilot of high-performance, single-pilot, military aircraft (discounted at 2:1). Only in-seat time logged as a pilot in fixed-wing aircraft counts.
- US DOD TS/SCI security clearance (US citizenship required).
- Valid US state-issued Driver's License and current US Passport or valid US Birth Certificate.
- Willingness to domicile in the Las Vegas, Nevada metropolitan area (no commute option).
- Compliance with all 14 CFR Part 121 requirements for pilots, including being under 65 years of age and eligible to fly for at least 2 years from the date of hire (effectively requiring the candidate to be under 63 years of age at the time of hire).
Preferred Capabilities:
- Active US DoD TS security clearance under "continuous evaluation" or with at least one year until the next investigation is due.
- US DOT/FAA Airline Transport Pilot (ATP) certificate with Airplane Multi-Engine Land (AMEL) rating.
- US DOT/FAA B737 Type rating.
- Current residency in the Las Vegas, Nevada metropolitan area.
- Active flying experience with a certificated aviation program or the military.
- Experience piloting large (or larger) category aircraft or high-performance military aircraft.
- Experience piloting aircraft equipped with modern avionics (glass cockpit).
- Experience with electronic flight bags (EFB).
