The United States Air Force is seeking a qualified instructor to serve as a supervisory aircraft simulator and academic instructor for students enrolled in Undergraduate Remotely Piloted Aircraft Training (URT) and Simulator Instructor Training (SIT-R) programs. This non-flying, mission-essential position is located in the United States.
About the Role
This supervisory position involves planning, directing, organizing, and controlling nonsupervisory instructors. The incumbent will also serve as an aircraft simulator and academic instructor, imparting extensive aviator experience to students undergoing training for remotely piloted aircraft operations in both national and international airspace. Responsibilities include workforce and personnel management, developing and presenting research material, and ensuring effective training delivery.

Must be able to obtain and maintain a Secret security clearance.

Must have the intellectual ability to adapt to rapidly changing training tools, methods, and emerging requirements.

Incumbent may be required to stand for several hours at a time while instructing in a classroom environment.

Work may occasionally require travel away from the normal duty station.

May occasionally be required to work other than normal duty hours; shift work may be required, including overtime and/or irregular hours.

This is a Supervisory Position; a 1-year supervisory probationary period is required if not previously met.

This is a Mission-Essential position.

Previous experience as a rated military aviator (instructor pilot) is highly desirable.
Qualifications

Must possess a current Commercial Pilot Certificate or appropriate military rating; for flight instructor roles, an FAA Flight Instructor Certificate or military equivalent is also required.

Pilot certificate must include ratings appropriate to the work of the position.

Minimum Flight Hour Requirements (for GS-11 and above):

Total Flight Time: 1500 hours

Pilot-In-Command: 250 hours

Night Flying: 75 hours

Flying Time Last 12 months: 100 hours

Instrument Hours: 75 hours

Instructor: 500 hours

Candidates establishing eligibility based on military flight experience must provide official documentation.

At the time of initial appointment, candidates must possess a current first or second-class medical certificate in accordance with FAA regulations (or as specified for certain roles requiring a first-class certificate).

Must have the ability to instruct at an expert level in a wide variety of interdisciplinary studies, including Aerodynamics, Flying Fundamentals, Instrument Flying, Aircraft Systems, Weather, Crew Resource Management, Operating Procedures, Navigation, Safety, and Aircraft Mishap Prevention.

Knowledge of safety, security regulations, practices, and procedures.

Knowledge of curriculum development, instructional techniques, and training resources.

Skill in the use of various computer applications, software, and simulator systems.

Skill in review and analysis techniques for assigned programs or projects.

Ability to plan, organize, and direct the functions and staff of a small to medium-sized organization.

Ability to communicate clearly and effectively orally and in writing.

Position is designated as a Testing Designated Position (TDP); employee must pass initial and periodic short notice drug testing.
