This position serves as a First Officer (FO) and instructor supervisor for the Undergraduate Remotely Piloted Aircraft Training (URT) program at the United States Air Force (USAF) in [Location, if specified]. The role involves planning, directing, and organizing nonsupervisory instructors, as well as providing aircraft simulator and academic instruction.
About the Role
The incumbent will function as a first-level supervisor with responsibilities for workforce and personnel management. Utilizing extensive aviator experience, the role involves instructing students in Undergraduate RPA Training (URT) and Simulator Instructor Training (SIT-R) for operations within the National Airspace System and international airspace under International Civil Aviation Organization rules. Additionally, the position includes academic instruction for URT and SIT-R programs. Special projects, such as preparing and presenting research material, are also part of the duties.

Must be able to obtain and maintain a Secret security clearance.

Previous experience as a rated military aviator (instructor pilot) is highly desirable.

Must possess the intellectual ability to adapt to rapidly changing training tools, methods, and emerging requirements.

May be required to stand for several hours at a time while instructing.

Work may occasionally require travel away from the duty station.

May occasionally be required to work other than normal duty hours, including shift work, overtime, and irregular hours.

This is a non-flying position.

This is a Mission-Essential position performing a Mission-Critical-Function.

A 1-year supervisory probationary period is required if the applicant has not previously met this requirement.
Qualifications

Must possess the ability to instruct at an expert level in various interdisciplinary studies, including aerodynamics, flying fundamentals, instrument flying, aircraft systems, weather, crew resource management, operating procedures, navigation, safety, and aircraft mishap prevention.

Must pass initial and periodic short notice drug testing as this position is designated as a Testing Designated Position (TDP).

Must possess a current Commercial Pilot Certificate or the appropriate military rating.

For flight instructor roles, an FAA Flight Instructor Certificate or military equivalent rating is required.

Minimum flight hour requirements apply:

Total Flight Time: 1500 hours

Instructor time must be related to the nature of the instruction and the category of aircraft operated.

Must possess a current first or second-class medical certificate in accordance with FAA regulations at the time of initial appointment.
