Role Summary
The United States Air Force (USAF) seeks a supervisory instructor to plan, direct, and organize nonsupervisory instructors for the Undergraduate Remotely Piloted Aircraft Training (URT) program. This role also involves serving as an aircraft simulator and academic instructor for students undergoing URT and Simulator Instructor Training (SIT-R).
About the Role
This is a non-flying, mission-essential, supervisory position within the Operations career field. The incumbent will be responsible for workforce management and personnel management of instructors. The role demands extensive aviator experience to provide expert instruction in both simulator and academic settings for aircraft operations within the National Airspace System and international airspace under International Civil Aviation Organization rules. Duties include preparing and presenting research materials as special projects.

Males must be registered for Selective Service.

Must be able to obtain and maintain a Secret security clearance.

A 1-year supervisory probationary period is required if the applicant has not previously met this requirement.

Must possess the intellectual ability to adapt to rapidly changing training tools, methods, and emerging requirements.

Incumbent may be required to stand for several hours at a time while instructing.

Work may occasionally require travel away from the duty station, including overnight stays.

Shift work, overtime, and irregular hours may be required.

Previous experience as a rated military aviator (instructor pilot) is highly desirable.
Qualifications

Must possess a current Commercial Pilot Certificate or appropriate military rating, and for flight instructor positions, an FAA Flight Instructor Certificate or military equivalent.

Must possess ratings appropriate to the work, such as multi-engine and instrument ratings for airplane operations.

Minimum Flight Hour Requirements (for GS-11 and above):

Total Flight Time: 1500 hours

Pilot-In-Command: 250 hours

Night Flying: 75 hours

Flying Time Last 12 months: 100 hours

Instrument Hours: 75 hours

Instructor: 500 hours

Candidates must demonstrate proficiency through flight experience directly related to the work.

Must possess a current first or second-class medical certificate.

Ability to instruct at an expert level in a wide variety of interdisciplinary studies, including Aerodynamics, Flying Fundamentals, Instrument Flying, Aircraft Systems, Weather, Crew Resource Management, Operating Procedures, Navigation, Safety, and Aircraft Mishap Prevention.

Proficiency with computer applications and software, including simulator systems and electronic flight bags.

Skill in review and analysis techniques for appraising programs, identifying needs, and developing solutions.

Ability to plan, organize, and direct staff functions.

Ability to communicate clearly and effectively, both orally and in writing, including classroom instruction.

Position designated as a Testing Designated Position (TDP) under the Air Force Civilian Drug Demand Reduction Program; must pass initial and periodic drug testing.
