Job Summary
This supervisory position involves planning, directing, and overseeing nonsupervisory instructors within the United States Air Force (USAF) Undergraduate Remotely Piloted Aircraft Training (URT) program. The role includes serving as an aircraft simulator and academic instructor for students enrolled in URT and Simulator Instructor Training (SIT-R) programs. This is a non-flying, mission-essential role located within the USAF.
About the Role
The incumbent will perform first-level supervisory workforce management and personnel management responsibilities. Leveraging extensive aviator experience, the role entails instructing students in aircraft operations within the National Airspace System and international airspace, utilizing both simulators and academic instruction. Responsibilities also include carrying out special projects and preparing research material.

Males must be registered for Selective Service.

Must be able to obtain and maintain a Secret security clearance.

Must have the intellectual ability to adapt to rapidly changing training tools, methods, and requirements.

Previous experience as a rated military aviator (instructor pilot) is highly desirable.

Incumbent may be required to stand for several hours at a time while instructing in a classroom environment.

Work may occasionally require travel away from the normal duty station.

Shift work may be required, including overtime and irregular hours.

A 1-year supervisory probationary period is required if the applicant has not previously met this requirement.
Qualifications

Must possess a current Commercial Pilot Certificate or appropriate military rating, and for flight instructor positions, an FAA Flight Instructor Certificate or military equivalent rating.

Pilot certificate must include ratings appropriate to the work.

Must meet minimum flight hour requirements:

Total Flight Time: 1500 hours

Pilot-In-Command: 250 hours
-
Night Flying: 75 hours
-
Flying Time Last 12 months: 100 hours

Instrument Hours: 75 hours

Instructor: 500 hours (related to the nature of instruction and aircraft category)

Candidates must possess a current first or second-class medical certificate in accordance with FAA regulations for appointment.

Ability to instruct at an expert level in a wide variety of interdisciplinary studies, including Aerodynamics, Flying Fundamentals, Instrument Flying, Aircraft Systems, Weather, Crew Resource Management, Operating Procedures, Navigation, Safety, and Aircraft Mishap Prevention.

Knowledge of safety and security regulations, practices, and procedures.

Knowledge of curriculum development, instructional techniques, and training resources.

Skill in using various computer applications, software, and simulator systems.

Skill in review and analysis techniques for program appraisal and development.

Ability to plan, organize, and direct the functions and staff of a small to medium-sized organization.

Ability to communicate clearly and effectively orally and in writing.

Position is designated as a Testing Designated Position (TDP) requiring initial and periodic short notice drug testing.
