A supervisory aviation instructor position is available with the United States Air Force (USAF) at an unspecified location. This role involves providing academic and simulator instruction for students enrolled in Undergraduate Remotely Piloted Aircraft Training (URPT) and Simulator Instructor Training (SIT-R) programs.
About the Role
The incumbent will serve as a first-level supervisor, responsible for planning, directing, organizing, and exercising control over nonsupervisory instructors. This position also includes acting as an aircraft simulator and academic instructor for students undergoing Undergraduate Remotely Piloted Aircraft Training (URPT) and graduate Simulator Instructor Training (SIT-R). Instruction covers aircraft operations in both national and international airspace under relevant aviation rules. Special projects, including the preparation and presentation of research material, will also be undertaken.

Previous experience as a rated military aviator (instructor pilot) is highly desirable.

Must possess the intellectual ability to adapt to rapidly changing training tools, methods, and emerging requirements.

The incumbent may be required to stand for extended periods while instructing in a classroom environment.

Work may occasionally require travel away from the duty station on military or commercial aircraft/vehicle for conferences, meetings, or functions, potentially including overnight stays.

May occasionally be required to work other than normal duty hours, with potential for shift work, overtime, and irregular hours.

Must be able to obtain and maintain a Secret security clearance.

A 1-year supervisory probationary period is required for individuals who have not previously met this requirement.

This is a Centrally Managed Position in the Operations career Field.

Must be able to instruct at an expert level in interdisciplinary studies including Aerodynamics, Flying Fundamentals, Basic and Advanced Instrument Flying, Aircraft Systems, Weather, Crew Resource Management, Operating Procedures, Navigation, Safety, and Aircraft Mishap Prevention.

This position is designated as a Testing Designated Position (TDP) under the Air Force Civilian Drug Demand Reduction Program and requires passing initial and periodic short-notice drug testing.
Qualifications

Must possess a current Commercial Pilot Certificate or the appropriate military rating.

For flight instructor roles, a FAA Flight Instructor Certificate or military equivalent rating is also required.

Pilot certificates must include ratings appropriate to the work.

Minimum flight hour requirements apply:

Total Flight Time: 1500 hours

Pilot-In-Command: 250 hours

Night Flying: 75 hours

Flying Time Last 12 months: 100 hours

Instrument Hours: 75 hours

Instructor: 500 hours

Candidates establishing eligibility based on military flight experience must provide official documentation.

Other certificates meeting or exceeding Commercial Pilot Certificate requirements are acceptable.

At the time of initial appointment, candidates must possess a current first or second-class medical certificate in accordance with FAA regulations.
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities (KSAs)

Knowledge of aircraft systems operation, operating procedures, aerodynamics, emergency procedures, aviation weather, flight hazards, flight profile management, navigation, basic and advanced instrument training, and aircraft safety, mishap prevention, crew resource management, and of the operation, characteristics, and limitations of the corresponding aircraft simulator.

Knowledge of safety, security regulations, practices, and procedures.

Knowledge of the methods, principles, practices, and programs related to curriculum development, instructional techniques, and training resources.

Skill in the use of a variety of computer applications and software, including simulator systems, and electronic flight bags.
