This position serves as a First Level Supervisor and Instructor for the United States Air Force (USAF) Undergraduate Remotely Piloted Aircraft Training (URT) program. The role involves planning, directing, and organizing nonsupervisory instructors, as well as providing instruction on aircraft simulators and in academic settings. This is a non-flying, mission-essential supervisory role located within the USAF.
About the Role
The incumbent will oversee and manage a team of nonsupervisory instructors, ensuring the effective execution of training programs. Responsibilities include:

Performing first-level supervisory workforce management.

Exercising supervisory personnel management responsibilities.

Serving as a simulator instructor for Undergraduate RPA Training (URT) and graduate Simulator Instructor Training (SIT-R), covering operations in both national and international airspace.

Acting as an academic instructor for students in URT and SIT-R programs.

Undertaking special projects, including the preparation and presentation of research materials.
Requirements

Males must be registered for Selective Service.

Must be able to obtain and maintain a Secret security clearance.

Previous experience as a rated military aviator (instructor pilot) is highly desirable.

Must possess the intellectual ability to adapt quickly to changing training tools, methods, and emerging requirements.

Incumbent may be required to stand for extended periods while instructing.

Work may occasionally require travel away from the duty station, including overnight stays.

Shift work, overtime, and irregular hours may be required.

This is a supervisory position requiring a 1-year supervisory probationary period if the requirement has not been previously met.

This is a Mission-Essential position.

Must pass initial and periodic short-notice drug testing as part of the Air Force Civilian Drug Demand Reduction Program.
Qualifications

Must possess a current Commercial Pilot Certificate or the appropriate military rating.

For flight instructor roles, an FAA Flight Instructor Certificate or military equivalent is also required.

Pilot certificates must include ratings appropriate to the work to be filled.

Minimum flight hour requirements for GS-11 and above include:

Total Flight Time: 1500 hours

Pilot-In-Command: 250 hours

Night Flying: 75 hours
-
Flying Time Last 12 months: 100 hours

Instrument Hours: 75 hours

Instructor Time: 500 hours (related to the nature of the instruction and aircraft category)

Must possess a current first or second-class medical certificate in accordance with FAA regulations, unless exempted by role.

Ability to instruct at an expert level in interdisciplinary studies including Aerodynamics, Flying Fundamentals, Instrument Flying, Aircraft Systems, Weather, Crew Resource Management, Operating Procedures, Navigation, Safety, and Aircraft Mishap Prevention.

Knowledge of safety and security regulations, practices, and procedures.

Familiarity with curriculum development, instructional techniques, and training resources.

Proficiency in various computer applications, software, and simulator systems.

Skill in using electronic flight bags for academic and simulator training.

Proficiency in review and analysis techniques for program appraisal and development.

Ability to plan, organize, and direct staff functions.

Excellent oral and written communication skills, including classroom instruction.
