WASS Pilot - Flight Instructor - PC OCONUS
AAR, a global leader in aerospace aftermarket solutions, is seeking a skilled and experienced DHC-8 Pilot to join its Worldwide Aviation Support Services (WASS) program, headquartered in Rockledge, FL. This position plays a crucial role in providing world-class aviation services to the US Department of State Air Wing, operating in various locations worldwide.
Role Description:
The WASS Pilot serves as Pilot in Command for DHC-8 aircraft, ensuring safe and efficient flight operations. In addition, they may act as Second in Command when required. The successful candidate will demonstrate strong leadership and communication skills, along with a commitment to maintaining the highest safety standards.
Key Responsibilities:
- Develop and oversee the preparation of flight plans, meticulously considering factors such as altitude, terrain, weather conditions, range, weight, cruise control data, airport facilities, and navigational aids.
- Ensure the presence of all essential flight kit materials.
- Confirm that required airworthiness inspections have been conducted and any discrepancies addressed or appropriately deferred in accordance with the aircraft's Minimum Equipment List (MEL).
- Supervise or personally perform comprehensive preflight inspections and preparations.
- Ensure proper loading, distribution, and security of cargo. Verify carry-on baggage is placed in the cargo area as necessary.
- Determine that aircraft weight and balance conform to prescribed limits. Prepare Aircraft Flight Maintenance Log, Load Manifest, and Discrepancy Record forms, providing copies to the Operation Support Manager for filing after each flight.
- Confirm the availability of survival equipment and any required special emergency equipment such as life vests.
- Assume ultimate responsibility for logging aircraft flight time, filing and closing flight plans, and preparing flight and duty time records.
- Ensure the proper completion of Aircraft Flight Maintenance Log, Load Manifest, and Discrepancy Record forms. Report any mechanical irregularities, discrepancies, and accurately record maintenance performed by maintenance personnel during flights away from the primary operational base.
- Uphold safety standards and maintain ramp security during passenger boarding and disembarkation.
- Conduct security assessments prior to each flight and confirm understanding of rules of engagement (ROE).
- Maintain adequate rest and professional attire.
- Delegate tasks to other personnel while retaining overall responsibility.
- Possess a valid U.S. Security Clearance.
- Undertake routine travel outside the Continental United States (OCONUS) and occasional travel within the CONUS as required.
- Perform additional duties as assigned.
Qualifications:
Basic Qualifications:
- High school diploma or GED equivalent.
- FAA Commercial and Instrument Airman's Certificate - Airplane MEL.
- FCC Restricted Radiotelephone Operator Permit.
- Current FAA Class II Medical Certificate.
- Successful completion of FAA Type Rating Course in the selected aircraft type prior to assignment.
- 1500 total fixed wing flight hours, including 500 hours of turbine engine time, and 250 hours as MEL pilot in command.
- Unrestricted DHC-8 type rating.
- Ability to pass physical screening.
- Passport with at least 18 months of validity remaining.
- For Latin American positions, Level 2 Spanish proficiency is required.
Preferred Qualifications:
- Previous experience as a US Military Fixed Wing Transport pilot qualified and/or support on the DoS INLA program.
- FAA Airline Transport Pilot (ATP) rating.
