Global Survey Pilot - King Air 300
Woolpert, Inc., a leading national architecture, engineering, and geospatial (AEG) firm, is seeking an experienced Global Survey Pilot - King Air 300 to join its aerial flight operations team. This position is a full-time, salaried role responsible for piloting, navigating, and managing Beechcraft Super King Air (BE300) company aircraft. The primary objective is to collect remotely sensed data of the Earth's surface for mapping and other photogrammetric or remote sensing purposes.
Essential Functions & Responsibilities:
- Assume duties of Pilot in Command (PIC) for assigned aircraft, including all normal responsibilities of a PIC.
- Operate the aircraft in close coordination with the assigned Co-Pilot or Second in Command (SIC), utilizing best practices of Crew/Cockpit Resource Management (CRM).
- Conduct thorough flight planning for movement between job sites, both within the contiguous United States (CONUS) and outside the contiguous United States (OCONUS), as well as for mission execution.
- Collaborate with external handlers on OCONUS trips to ensure necessary permits, visas, fuel releases, and other required documentation are obtained prior to departure.
- Adhere to all rules and regulations of OCONUS countries where operations are conducted.
- Coordinate flight activities with air-traffic control, ensuring proper authorization and clearances within designated airspace, including Military Operating Areas (MOAs), restricted areas, alert areas, warning areas, and high-volume airspace.
- Assist the Flight Coordinator in contacting relevant air traffic control officials for airspace flight authorizations, laying out flight lines to comply with local air traffic control procedures, and notifying the coordinator or project manager of any special flight conditions that may impact project costs.
- Coordinate flight activities with the survey crew to ensure GPS accuracy requirements are met for the planned flight mission.
- Review data prior to the flight to ensure accuracy of captured data, including forecasted cloud height and bases, wind conditions at planned flight altitude, sun altitude at forecasted flight times (as required), and oceanic tide windows (if acquiring in coastal areas, in accordance with provided tables related to the specific project, as required).
- Communicate clearly and effectively with air traffic control throughout all phases of flight.
- Operate the aircraft at prescribed altitudes and airspeeds, following designated flight lines to ensure required overlap with previous flight lines.
- Control aircraft attitude to maintain level flight and eliminate contour errors in remotely sensed data caused by forward and lateral tilt of the aircraft.
- Log information such as flight time, sensor use time, and other relevant details on designated company forms. Submit these forms to the Flight Coordinator or Chief Pilot for accounting purposes.
- Maintain required paperwork for compliance with Federal Aviation Administration (FAA), International Civil Aviation Organization (ICAO), and/or International Organization for Standardization (ISO) regulations.
- Keep the site leader informed of crew and aircraft status at all times.
- Participate in all required onsite coordination meetings, typically held at least daily.
- Collaborate with the Maintenance Team Leader and/or onsite mechanics to monitor and arrange for any required aircraft maintenance as needed.
- Coordinate with other flight crew members to ensure that the project is flown thoroughly, completely, and accurately.
- Communicate project status updates to the Flight Coordinator and group or project managers in a timely manner, if required.
- Maintain routine contact with the Chief Pilot, particularly in extraordinary circumstances.
- Strive to fulfill corporate assigned goals and any additional goals assigned by the Chief Pilot, as well as goals mutually agreed upon by the pilot and the Chief Pilot.
- When not flying, additional duties may include scheduling, international mission planning, GPS database management, ForeFlight management, and other related tasks.
Skills & Proficiencies:
- Ability to operate the aircraft with precision and to required tolerances, both during manual flight and when using the autopilot.
- Strong communication skills, including clear and concise communication with air traffic control.
- Knowledge and ability to interpret FAA regulations, operating and maintenance instructions, and procedural manuals.
- Verifiable training and experience with RNP/Oceanic operations, including HF radio operation and advanced fuel planning for extended overwater transits.
- Ability to travel for multiple weeks at a time.
- High level of understanding of survey-oriented project execution, demonstrating awareness and adherence to communication protocols amongst the acquisition team, as well as within working groups consisting of other Woolpert teams and clients.
- Exhibit strong leadership skills and serve as a mentor to less experienced pilots on the team.
Required Qualifications:
- Bachelor's degree.
- Minimum of 5000 hours of logged flight time, including 1500 hours in BE300/350 aircraft.
- FAA Airline Transport Pilot Multi-Engine with unrestricted BE300 type rating.
- Recurrent BE300 training within the last year.
- Valid driver's license and safe driving record.
- Current passport and ability to obtain appropriate visas for OCONUS travel.
Preferred Qualifications:
- Master's degree.
- FAA Flight Instructor and/or Airframe & Powerplant Mechanic Certification(s).
Required Physical Qualifications:
- Current FAA Second-Class Medical Certification.
- Ability to lift and move 50 pounds.
- Ability to reach with hands and arms and climb.
- Ability to walk, stand, and/or sit for long periods of time.
- Ability to travel as required.
