This full-time, salaried position requires a highly skilled and experienced pilot responsible for piloting, navigating, and managing Beechcraft Super King Air (BE300) company aircraft. The primary mission is collecting remotely sensed data of the Earth's surface for mapping and other photogrammetric or remote sensing purposes.
Essential Functions and Responsibilities:
- Assume the role of Pilot in Command (PIC) for assigned aircraft, upholding all associated responsibilities.
- Collaborate closely with the assigned Co-Pilot or Second in Command (SIC), employing best practices in Crew/Cockpit Resource Management (CRM).
- Conduct comprehensive flight planning for both domestic and international travel, ensuring seamless transitions between job sites and mission execution.
- Coordinate with external handlers for international trips to secure necessary permits, visas, fuel releases, and other required documentation prior to departure.
- Adhere to all applicable rules and regulations of countries where operations are conducted, both domestically and internationally.
- Maintain constant coordination with air-traffic control to obtain proper authorization and clearances within designated airspace, including Military Operations Areas (MOAs), restricted areas, alert areas, warning areas, and high-volume airspace.
- Assist the Flight Coordinator in communicating with appropriate air traffic control (ATC) officials for airspace flight authorizations, outlining flight lines to comply with local ATC procedures, and informing the Flight Coordinator or project manager of any special flight conditions that could potentially impact the planned cost of the project.
- Coordinate flight activities with the survey crew to ensure that GPS accuracy requirements align with the planned flight mission.
- Verify the accuracy of captured data through meticulous pre-flight reviews, encompassing factors such as:
- Forecasted cloud height and bases
- Wind conditions at planned flight altitude
- Sun altitude at forecasted flight times, as required
- Oceanic tide windows, if applicable, in accordance with provided tables related to the specific project.
- Communicate clearly and effectively with ATC during all phases of flight.
- Operate the aircraft at prescribed altitudes and airspeeds, adhering to designated flight lines to ensure required overlap with previous flight lines.
- Maintain precise control of aircraft attitude to ensure level flight, mitigating contour errors in remotely sensed data caused by forward and lateral tilt.
- Accurately log information, including flight time and sensor use time, in designated company forms. Submit these forms to the Flight Coordinator or Chief Pilot for accounting purposes.
- Maintain required documentation for compliance with FAA, ICAO, and/or ISO regulations.
- Keep the site leader informed at all times regarding crew and aircraft status.
- Actively participate in all required onsite coordination meetings, which typically occur at least daily.
- Collaborate with the Maintenance Team Leader and/or onsite mechanics to monitor and arrange for any necessary aircraft maintenance as it becomes due.
- Work closely with other flight crew members to ensure that the project has been executed thoroughly, completely, and accurately.
- Communicate timely project status updates to the Flight Coordinator and group or project managers, as required.
- Maintain regular contact with the Chief Pilot, especially during extraordinary circumstances.
- Strive to achieve corporate assigned goals, as well as additional goals that may be assigned by the Chief Pilot and those mutually agreed upon by the pilot and the Chief Pilot.
- When not flying, perform additional duties that may include scheduling, international mission planning, GPS database management, ForeFlight management, etc.
Skills and Proficiencies:
- Exceptional ability to operate the aircraft with precision and within specified tolerances, whether through manual control or autopilot.
- Excellent communication skills, particularly in the realm of clear and concise communication with ATC.
- Comprehensive knowledge of Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) regulations, operating and maintenance instructions, and procedural manuals.
- Proven training and experience in RNP/Oceanic operations, encompassing HF radio operation and advanced fuel planning for extended overwater transits.
- Ability to travel for multiple weeks at a time.
- Strong command of survey-oriented project execution with appropriate awareness and adherence to communication protocols, both within the acquisition team and among other Woolpert teams and clients.
- Demonstrated strong leadership skills, serving as a mentor to less experienced pilots on the team.
Required Qualifications:
- Bachelor’s degree.
- Minimum of 5000 hours of logged flight time, including 1500 hours in BE300/350 aircraft.
- FAA Airline Transport Pilot Multi-Engine with unrestricted BE300 type rating.
- Recurrent BE300 training within the last year.
- Valid driver’s license and a safe driving record.
- Current passport and the ability to obtain necessary visas for international travel.
Preferred Qualifications:
- Master’s degree.
- FAA Flight Instructor and/or Airframe & Powerplant Mechanic Certification(s).
Required Physical Qualifications:
- Current FAA Second-Class Medical Certification.
- Ability to lift and move 50 pounds.
- Ability to reach with hands and arms and climb.
- Ability to walk, stand, and/or sit for extended periods.
- Ability to travel as required.
