United Airlines is seeking a Flight Operations Intern, Pilot-Professional Flight, for a summer 2025 internship. This full-time position, categorized as Student and Early Career, is based in Chicago, Illinois, United States, with potential opportunities in Denver, CO, Houston, TX, Los Angeles, CA, Newark, NJ, San Francisco, CA, Washington, DC and Orlando, FL. The internship runs from May 12, 2025, to August 29, 2025.
The Flight Operations team connects people and unites the world safely, reliably, and efficiently. The Flight Operations Intern Program (FOIP) provides students with insight into the operation of a global airline, combining academic interests with practical experience in the commercial air carrier environment. During the 16-week internship, the student will be assigned a mentor responsible for monitoring their progress, assigning tasks and special projects, and providing daily direction. Opportunities for business travel and off-site visits may arise. The intern will support Flight Operations business processes and staff in Chief Pilot Offices, at the Flight Training Center, or at the Corporate Support Center, as directed.
Minimum qualifications include a high school diploma or GED equivalent, an FAA Instrument rating, an FAA Medical certificate (First, Second, or Third class), a valid passport, knowledge of Microsoft Office Suite, willingness to relocate and secure housing in the assigned location, and legal authorization to work in the U.S. without sponsorship. Successful completion of an interview and reliable attendance are also required.
A FAA Commercial Certificate and Multi-Engine Rating are preferred.
The starting hourly rate for this position is $17.50, dependent on experience, education, and skills. The hourly rate may vary based on location: SFO ($21.46), LAX ($19.28), LGA ($19.00), JFK ($19.00), EWR ($19.00), and DEN ($18.29).
