Flight Attendant Role Overview
United Airlines, the world's largest airline with an expanding global presence, seeks dedicated individuals to join its team of over 28,000 flight attendants. This highly sought-after position offers the unique advantage of worldwide travel without requiring specialized schooling or a college degree. United provides comprehensive, industry-leading training for all new flight attendants.
The journey begins with a rigorous 6.5-week Initial Training program in Houston, Texas, focusing on United's stringent safety and service standards. Upon successful completion, trainees are assigned to one of United's seven hub locations: Chicago, Denver, Houston, Los Angeles, Newark, San Francisco, or Washington Dulles. Relocation assistance is not provided. Following base orientation, successful candidates become full-time United employees. During training, a stipend of $140 per week is provided, along with dual-occupancy hotel accommodations and two daily meals.

Qualifications and Requirements
To be considered for this role, candidates must meet the following qualifications:
- Be at least 21 years of age at the time of application.
- Possess a high school diploma or GED; two or more years of college education is preferred.
- Have a minimum of one year of customer service experience in sectors such as retail, hospitality, food service, education, aviation, or social services.
- Communicate clearly, concisely, and audibly, especially in emergency situations.
- Demonstrate fluent English proficiency (speaking, reading, writing, and understanding).
- Possess fluent German language skills.
- Have the ability to hear all types and ranges of sound.
- Effectively communicate during high-stress situations, including aircraft evacuations, security threats, delays, medical emergencies, severe weather, and turbulence.
- Maintain a professional appearance and adhere to grooming standards, including uniform, hair, tattoo, and piercing guidelines. Tattoos are restricted on the head, hands, and neck; visible tattoos on arms, wrists, legs, and feet must not exceed credit card size and must not be offensive. Decorative oral jewelry is prohibited.
- Proficiently operate electronic devices for task completion.
- Possess a valid passport with at least 18 months of remaining validity prior to expiration at the time of application. Current physical possession of a valid U.S. or foreign passport book with applicable visas and unrestricted global travel eligibility is mandatory. Applications for or renewals of passports are not sufficient.
- Be eligible to travel globally to all countries served by United without restriction.
- Be able to stand, walk, kneel, bend, stoop, stretch, reach, lift heavy objects (up to overhead bins or exit windows), and push/pull beverage carts up to 250 lbs.
- Successfully complete a functional reach assessment (76-inch vertical, 43.5-inch horizontal reach and hold without shoes).
- Be able to sit in an assigned jump seat with a fastened seatbelt and shoulder harness.
- Willingness to serve and sell food and beverages, including alcohol, professionally.
- Legally authorized to work in the United States.
- Willingness to work a flexible schedule supporting United's 24/7 operations, including weekdays, weekends, and holidays.
Onboarding and Training
Candidates can expect the following during onboarding and training:
- Successful completion of a water evacuation drill (pool).
- Willingness to undergo pre-employment DOT drug screening, comprehensive background checks, fingerprinting, and vision/hearing tests.
- Ability to pass DOT/FAA pre-employment and randomized drug screens. Medical and recreational marijuana use is prohibited due to the safety-sensitive nature of the role.
- Successful completion of a 10-year background check, ensuring no travel restrictions to any United destinations. Specific regulations, such as Canada's DWI/DUI inadmissibility, must be adhered to.
- Meet Federal Aviation Administration and United Airlines hearing and vision requirements, including specific decibel loss averages and corrected visual acuity of 20/40 or better.
