About the Role
The Experimental Test Pilot Flight Instructor (TPFI) will serve as an instructor at the United States Naval Test Pilot School (USNTPS). Key responsibilities include:

Providing flight instruction to experienced pilots, flight officers, and test engineers on conducting aircraft and airborne systems flight tests.

Instructing on aircraft systems testing, including sophisticated weapons systems, electro-optical sensors, and threat countermeasure suites.

Acting as a subject matter expert to advise on complex issues, conduct special studies, propose solutions, and represent the command.

Managing project/program requirements, objectives, and metrics, while resolving conflicts related to schedules, funding, and resources.
Requirements

Must be a U.S. Citizen.

Must be able to obtain and maintain a Secret security clearance.

Must pass a pre-employment physical examination and annual examinations thereafter.

Must be willing and able to obtain a current first or second-class medical certificate in accordance with FAA regulations.

Requires a Temporary Duty (TDY) or business travel requirement of 25% of the time.

Appointment is subject to a one-year probationary period.

Must meet Test and Evaluation certification requirements within 60 months of entrance on duty.

Male applicants born after December 31, 1959, must complete a Pre-Employment Certification Statement for Selective Service Registration.

Qualifications

Certificates and Ratings:
Must possess a current Commercial Pilot Certificate or appropriate military rating, along with an FAA Flight Instructor Certificate or military equivalent. The pilot certificate must include ratings appropriate to the position's duties. Positions requiring instruction in both airplanes and helicopters necessitate ratings in both categories.

Flight Experience:

Total flight time: 1750 hours

Pilot in command: 1150 hours

Night flying: 75 hours

Heavy multi-engine airplane/heavy helicopter (gross takeoff weight in excess of 12,500 pounds): 500 hours

Flying time in the last 12 months: 100 hours (can be fixed-wing or rotary-wing)
Supporting documentation for flight hours must be provided.

Specialized Experience:
One year of specialized experience equivalent to the NH-03 or GS-13 grade level, including:

Conducting flight tests to evaluate the performance of substantially modified aircraft.

Instructing personnel to successfully deliver aviation test curriculum.

Managing aviation programs to align resources with organizational objectives.
