Job Summary

The First Officer plays a critical role supporting the Aircraft Captain, contributing significantly to the safe and timely operation of the aircraft. This position involves performing essential piloting duties, assisting with comprehensive flight planning and aircraft management tasks, and ensuring strict adherence to all Company policies, procedures, and Federal Aviation Regulations (FARs). The First Officer is a key member of the flight crew, dedicated to operational excellence and safety.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities

A First Officer is expected to perform the following duties with proficiency:

• Collaborate with the Captain to meticulously plan each flight, utilizing all available weather data and reports in compliance with Company standards and FARs.
• Verify the airworthiness of the aircraft according to FARs and Company procedures, successfully completing required preflight inspections.
• Partner with the Captain to ensure flights are planned and fueled appropriately for safe execution, adhering to all policies and regulations.
• Operate the aircraft safely, correctly, and effectively during assigned duty periods, following the Captain's instructions, FARs, and Company guidelines.
• Maintain expert knowledge of the operated equipment, relevant FARs, manuals, policies, procedures, and other instructions.
• Proactively inform crew and passengers about turbulent weather or any other operational factors influencing the flight.
• Accurately complete the load manifest for each flight.
• Contribute to reliable and on-time operations by assisting the Captain in meeting all report times, departure times, and minimum turn times.
• While at the terminal, provide assistance with and ensure the proper handling of the aircraft, passengers, baggage, and cargo.
• Maintain consistent and reliable attendance as per Company policies and practices.
• Present a professional image and comply with the Company's uniform dress code.
• Conduct oneself professionally at all times while on duty, adhering to the Rules of Conduct outlined in the Flight Operations Manual, Associate Handbook, and other relevant policies.
• Actively pursue professional training opportunities to enhance performance and abilities.
• Execute other duties as assigned by the Company and the Captain.

Required Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities

Candidates must meet the following requirements:

• High School diploma or GED.
• Meet the minimum requirements for an Airline Transport Pilot (ATP) or Restricted Airline Transport Pilot (RATP) certificate.
• Possession of an ATP written exam pass is preferred.
• Meet the current interview and hiring minimum age and flight hour requirements established by the FAA and the Company.

Candidates who meet interview minimums but not hiring minimums may be eligible for hire upon successful interview completion if they:

• Achieve hiring minimums within six months of the interview date.
• Have no certificate actions since the interview date.
• Has no misdemeanors or felonies since the interview date.
• Accept a class date within six months of the interview date.

Preferred Experience

• Prior customer service experience, particularly within the aviation sector, is preferred.

Language Skills

The ability to read, analyze, interpret, and understand technical procedures and governmental regulations, sometimes rapidly under stressful or emergency conditions, is essential. The First Officer must effectively present information and respond to inquiries from management, dispatch, crew, passengers, air traffic control, and the public. Proficiency in spoken and understandable English, including the ability to use shouted verbal commands during emergencies, is required.

Reasoning/Problem Solving Ability

The First Officer must possess the ability to solve practical problems and manage varied situations where standardization is limited. The role requires interpreting diverse and multiple instructions in written, oral, diagram, or schedule formats. The ability to remain calm, think quickly, and react effectively in all emergency situations, including but not limited to medical emergencies, decompression, evacuations, fires, security threats, passenger issues, and turbulence, is paramount.

Decision Making & Impact of Errors

The First Officer makes decisions that support strategic direction. These decisions are typically medium-range with moderate significance, potentially impacting resource expenditure and safety if not sound. In unusual circumstances, decisions can be highly significant with safety-of-flight consequences. The ability to process information rapidly and react positively during unexpected and/or serious situations is crucial. Maintaining control over personal and emotional responses and acting appropriately under high levels of stress is mandatory.

Physical Demands

The role requires physical capabilities including:

• Ability to climb, balance, stoop, kneel, crouch, squat, and/or crawl.
• Ability to sit without standing for extended periods.
• Capability of lifting or moving items up to 75 pounds at different heights.
• Adherence to the visual acuity standards set by FAA medical requirements.
• Ability to clearly hear verbal communications in person, via telephone, and using a headset amidst ambient aircraft and passenger noise.
• Possession of stamina to work long duty days on sequential days, with frequent exposure to changing temperatures, climates, and weather.
• Ability to move freely, effectively, and quickly within a confined aircraft environment to perform all required functions.
• Ability to sit in the pilot's seat or assigned jump seat with seatbelt and shoulder harness fastened without requiring modifications.

Work Environment

The work environment involves:

• Proximity to moving mechanical parts.
• Exposure to outdoor weather conditions within open hangars and on the flight line for extended periods.
• High noise levels requiring headset use.
• Willingness and ability to work extended duty periods on sequential days, including varied schedules involving early mornings, nights, overnights, and weekends.

Travel Requirements

Frequent travel is required, up to 100% of the time, encompassing nights, weekends, holidays, and overnight stays. The First Officer must be available for extended hours with limited scheduling control and ready to report to work with minimal notice. Willingness to relocate based on Company operational needs is also required.
