Job Summary

The First Officer plays a critical role supporting the Aircraft Captain, contributing significantly to the safe and timely operation of the aircraft. This position involves performing essential piloting duties, assisting with comprehensive flight planning and aircraft management tasks, and ensuring strict adherence to all Company policies, procedures, and Federal Aviation Regulations (FARs). The First Officer is a key member of the flight crew, dedicated to operational excellence and safety.

The ability to read, analyze, interpret, and understand technical procedures and governmental regulations, sometimes rapidly under stressful or emergency conditions, is essential. The First Officer must effectively present information and respond to inquiries from management, dispatch, crew, passengers, air traffic control, and the public. Proficiency in spoken and understandable English, including the ability to use shouted verbal commands during emergencies, is required.

Reasoning/Problem Solving Ability

The First Officer must possess the ability to solve practical problems and manage varied situations where standardization is limited. The role requires interpreting diverse and multiple instructions in written, oral, diagram, or schedule formats. The ability to remain calm, think quickly, and react effectively in all emergency situations, including but not limited to medical emergencies, decompression, evacuations, fires, security threats, passenger issues, and turbulence, is paramount.

Decision Making & Impact of Errors

The First Officer makes decisions that support strategic direction. These decisions are typically medium-range with moderate significance, potentially impacting resource expenditure and safety if not sound. In unusual circumstances, decisions can be highly significant with safety-of-flight consequences. The ability to process information rapidly and react positively during unexpected and/or serious situations is crucial. Maintaining control over personal and emotional responses and acting appropriately under high levels of stress is mandatory.

Travel Requirements

Frequent travel is required, up to 100% of the time, encompassing nights, weekends, holidays, and overnight stays. The First Officer must be available for extended hours with limited scheduling control and ready to report to work with minimal notice. Willingness to relocate based on Company operational needs is also required.
