First Officer
An aviation professional is sought to serve as First Officer, supporting the Captain in ensuring the safe and efficient operation of aircraft, while also managing various aircraft-related duties. This role requires meticulous adherence to company policies, procedures, and Federal Aviation Regulations (FARs).
Essential Responsibilities:
- Collaborate with the Captain in flight planning, utilizing all relevant weather data and reports, adhering to company and FAR guidelines.
- Conduct thorough preflight inspections to verify aircraft airworthiness, in accordance with FARs and company policies.
- Assist the Captain in ensuring proper flight planning and fueling for safe operations.
- Operate the aircraft safely and effectively under the direction of the Captain, complying with FARs, and company procedures.
- Maintain a comprehensive understanding of aircraft equipment, FARs, manuals, policies, and operational instructions.
- Inform crew and passengers about weather conditions and any other factors that may impact the flight.
- Complete flight load manifests.
- Contribute to on-time operations by assisting the Captain with adherence to report, departure, and minimum turn times.
- Assist in the proper handling of aircraft, passengers, baggage, and cargo while at the terminal.
- Maintain consistent and reliable attendance in line with company practices.
- Present a professional appearance and adhere to the company uniform policy.
- Conduct oneself professionally, observing all rules of conduct, as detailed in the Flight Operations Manual and related policies.
- Engage in continuous professional training to enhance skills and performance.
- Perform any other duties assigned by the company or the Captain.
Required Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:
- High School diploma or GED.
- Must meet the minimum requirements for an ATP or RATP certificate.
- ATP written exam completion is preferred.
- Must satisfy the minimum age and flight hour requirements set by the FAA and company.
- If meeting interview minimums but not hiring minimums, candidates may be eligible for hire if they satisfy hiring minimums within six months of the interview, maintain a clean certificate record, have no criminal record since the interview, and accept a class date within six months of the interview.
Preferred Experience:
- Prior customer service experience, particularly within an aviation setting.
Language Skills:
- Proficient ability to comprehend and interpret technical and regulatory documentation, often under time-sensitive or stressful conditions.
- Effectively communicate with management, dispatch, crew, passengers, air traffic control, and the public.
- Capable of speaking and understanding English, including shouted verbal commands during emergency situations.
Reasoning/Problem Solving Ability:
- Capable of solving practical issues and managing multiple variables in non-standard situations.
- Able to interpret various instructions, whether written, oral, or in diagram form.
- Must maintain composure and act quickly during emergency situations, including medical emergencies, aircraft decompression, evacuations, fires, security threats, and turbulence.
Decision Making & Impact of Errors:
- Makes decisions that support the company's strategic direction.
- Decisions are generally of medium significance, with moderate consequences, but can in some cases have safety implications.
- Able to quickly process information and react positively in unexpected or critical scenarios.
- Demonstrates the ability to control emotional responses and act appropriately under high-stress levels.
Physical Demands:
- Ability to climb, balance, stoop, kneel, crouch, squat, and crawl.
- Ability to sit for extended periods.
- Capable of lifting or moving objects up to 75 pounds.
- Must meet visual standards established by the FAA.
- Ability to hear clearly in person, on the phone, and over a headset in noisy environments.
- Possesses the stamina to work long hours over multiple days, with fluctuating temperatures and weather conditions.
- Ability to move about the aircraft and quickly perform required functions in confined spaces.
- Must be able to sit in pilot seat with seatbelt and shoulder harness fastened.
Work Environment:
- Ability to work near moving mechanical parts.
- Ability to withstand outdoor weather conditions for extended periods.
- Ability to work in loud environments, use of headset is required.
- Willingness to work extended duty periods, varied shifts, including nights, overnights, and weekends.
Travel Requirements:
- Travel up to 100% of the time, including nights, weekends, holidays, and overnight stays.
- Flexibility to work extended hours with little notice and relocate based on operational needs.
